This evening is the first time since 2006 that I haven't owned a Monster.  I sold mine today to a nice guy from Atlanta.  Took it for a short ride today before it was sold and was reminded why it is such an exciting bike to ride, but it didn't really fit into my life anymore and I have a few other bikes that get ridden more frequently.  I thought I would be alright, but this really sucks.  It was a beastly quick true Monster of a bike.  It was probably the fastest air-cooled bike that any of us will ever see.  It was also the only bike where I actually did the mods that I really wanted to do.  

My best friend is out of town, my wife is working tonight, my kids are all at friends.  I need to be doing something right now to take my mind off of this.  I should be riding the Darmah.  Ride that Monster right out of my system.

I know you've had the Darmah for a little bit but a new-ish girlfriend often helps to get over the last one.

Your Monster?  It cannot be ridden out of your system.  Like it or not you're infected with that virus for life.

I'm certain a Monster will be back.  One day.

Meanwhile you're free to ride your other bikes without feeling like you're... cheating.

oooft been there sort off i didnt sell the monster tho only got as far as advertising it.
for 2 years running it did less than 100 miles in between annual inspections.
I had moved house twice flipped my flat. Renovated the house i live in now and  started a new job.
The monster sat in the garage under its cover under spiders webs and sawdust.

i sort of deliberately made the price too high so no one would buy it

Travman,  Although youve sold your monster, I feel very obligated to say you better stay on the forum.  The bikes you post have brought much inspiration to a lot of us.  Im sure theres some random Monster parts laying around somewhere still so theres a reason to stay on here.... lol.  Like i said,  your posts are always awesome.  Keep it up man!  Dont leave us!

No plans are leaving the forum. I do have some parts that could be the start of another Monster someday. But hopefully I'm smart enough to only have one or two projects at a time.  I do love motorcycles. I would love it if Ducati made another generation of the air cooled engine. Something like a 1200cc with gear drive cams and 4 valves. I would like to put that engine into a first generation frame.

I've been Monster-less since 2010.  Got an SS1000 now and it's ok.

I remember that conversation we had when I was still in the planning phases for building the 1123cc motor. Thanks for all advice. It really did turn out nice. It pulled like a beast and in many ways was smoother and had more useable RPM range.
