It's time to part ways with my Monster.  My circumstances now aren't what they were when I bought it, so it's gotta go.

1993, the first generation.  It's got new emulsion tubes as of ~2 years ago, new tyres from last month, and the clutch basket and plates were replaced when I bought the bike ~3 years ago, and are still in excellent shape when it was last checked.  New chain and sprocket from about 18 months ago.  New clutch master cylinder from about 2 months ago.  Battery's not old, and even on a cold winter's day she'll start on the second or third crank.  It's a good bike, and I'll miss it.

It has rego now, but it needs new brakes all around and (for this and the following reasons) won't pass the safety inspection, so am thinking about selling it without rego.  The only other things wrong with the bike, according to the mechanic who gave it a once-over, are the blue-tinted headlight and Termi exhaust, some worn rubber on one footpeg and some stretching on the seat.  There's some paint missing where a previous owner let the battery leak acid onto the frame.  These things are easy enough and relatively cheap to fix, but I'm trying to decide whether I should put the effort into something I don't want anymore, or just sell it and get it overwith.

I paid $6k for it a few years ago, I was hoping to get $5k for it with all the repairs and safety certificate, but I'm not sure what it's worth without these things.  Would $3,000 be a reasonable price, or am I aiming too high?

Opinions requested.

$5000 Aud sounds like a lot for a 20 year old bike....

How many miles/kilometers?

Check out the bikes for sale thread here on the board, and then do some conversions for whatever affects sales on your continent.

good luck.

Bikes in Australia seem to go for at least double the price of one in the US.  I paid $6k for this and in the US at the same time I could have paid $2-3k.

Yay, Australia!
