796 Q's
«
on:

Finally had a chance to check out a "769" at a local car dealer (yes, I know it's a 796).
Details:
2011
1,400 miles
Needs rear brake I'm told
Rear tire tread not certain on - will post pics later so you can try to judge the wear
It's pretty
They have it unofficially listed at around $11k but would "take care of me..." possibly at around $9300.
Leo V pipes
They'll call former owner to ask which dealer he got it from so we can get any history.
Thoughts on this model? What would you pay? What else??
Thnx!

$9200 is "average retail" per NADA. That's on one with ABS. Or you can just buy the '10 1100 in our classifieds for the same price or the '12 696 for less then 8K. In other words, there are better deals out there to be had.

Valid point on the other bikes out there. Wasn't originally looking to spend what this bike is priced at but I do like deals that have potential to make me profit down the road and knowing the owner of the dealership, I have a slight chance of getting a better price than $9300. (Maybe?!)
696 is nice (rode one on the track in Vegas a few years ago - very smooth) and the one listed on our site looks great. BUT, it's a few states away. What is the avg. cost to transport a bike? I have zero idea.
Less expensive bike, more cost for shipping v pricier bike, no shipping cost
I've been bikeless for too long now. But can wait longer for the right priced bike.

$9300...no. I'd pay $8-8.5k ish. I've seen 1100evos with similar miles asking $9.5-10k locally.

Hmmm...there's another 796 in KS. 2012 for $9k. With only 350 miles on it. Emailed the seller.
And: What's wrong with people? You get a bike... RIDE IT!
(As my Yeti mtn bike weeps, sitting in the garage.)
Quick response from the seller:
"There is no maint/repairs that need to be done on this bike. It is in perfect condition with less than 400mi on it. It isn't even broken in yet. At 600mi the maintenance will have to be done by a Ducati mechanic. It is only $200 and takes a couple hours to do. It still has the factory warranty for another year and a tire/wheel warranty for the next two years."
I think I need an older, less expensive ride though when I rationally think about my needs/wants....

I think you are already on the right track but:
-there is no potential profit in that 796. Its overpriced at 9300.
-Bike transport is 400-800 depending on distance and quality of transporter in my experience.
-Or...fly in and ride it home.

Feasible with the Kansas bike. 425 miles.
Although for a first ride in a few years, perhaps trailering it would be more realistic (and less painful).

You should buy the bike you want. Some people who can afford EVO's still buy 796's.
A late 2011 will have ABS standard. Why a rear brake? Is it still under warranty?
Much nicer bike than a 696. Needs a 14T front sprocket and a $625- Ohlins as soon as you have the scratch.
With air in it, the rear tire should go 5,000 - 6,000+ miles. Should be a Diablo Rosso. They're decent.
Buy a used 1100 if you want. There are lots of them. 796's a lot less...
Are those just slip-ons? If not, has the bike been tuned to run with them? Definitely get some history.

^ Thank you!
Not having ridden for a few years, I think a bike like an 1100 may be more than what I need (coming from a 620).
The car dealership's GM didn't know much about it (or about bikes in general) but said he'd reach out to the previous owner to get whatever info I needed - if the guy responds or not. Will ask about the pipes as well. IF this were to come to fruition, it wouldn't be w/o getting much more info. on it based on the responses here. Just what I was looking for. Thanks again!

Details on this? Why's a nearly new bike need a new brake?

No idea and definitely odd considering the miles. The sales manager knows nothing about motos but was going to reach out to the previous owner to get whatever addt'l. info he could.

That'd make be a bit nervous. Brakes, especially the rear are pretty simple and hearty.
