I like the idea/concept but frankly they should have done a new design IMO. The Panigale is beautiful but why strip it's "status" with a middleweight that looks almost identical? I would rather save extra pennies and have the big Pani

I did but then again I'm not a fan of that design The Pani is sexy, maybe more so than the trip 9 but not quite the Tamburini.....just my opinion

my point is, there's always been a middleweight/big bike in the SBK range once they went up to the 916 era SBK.
and it's always been said the middleweights were easier to use on the street (no FHE)
that being said, there's never been major differences like the new Pani has (ie DSS vs SSS)
minor trim stuff, like forks/steering damper/rear shock/wheels/calipers/clutch (only with the 848 era)
just seems odd they would do that with the 899

Maybe more so then the 999? No question more so. The 999 is the worst looking SBK they have ever produced. An 899 will be easier to ride on the street and hopefully won't run so hot. The heat off the 1199 is truly ridiculous.

I personally like the trip 9, has appeal other bikes dont have. As for running hot.......all the pregnant doging . ride a Harley in 100 degree traffic, no comparison

IMO, there's no such thing as a Ducati SBK that is good on the street...unless the street doesn't have traffic or stoplights. The 848 threw off a ton of heat...I can only imagine the 1199.

Probably just an effective way to cut costs. I think fabricating the new style SSS is expensive. The problem is everyone will want to pay several thousand less for the 899 (?) than the 1199, but the motor doesn't cost Ducati any less. Therefore, they have to make up the difference with a bunch of little corners being cut all over the bike. A good example was the 848 frame originally didn't have an atachment arm for a steering damper like the 1098 did...a small detail, but a couple less steps in manufacturing the frame which probably saved a few dollars. Cheaper suspension, heavier wheels, non LED lights ( ), etc. to get the price down. I think ditching the SSS is a mistake, as it's an important piece in why the 1199 look good. I think consumers might be disappointed seeing the SSS on the 1199 sitting right next to the 899 with its DSS. What do I know though...there's probably a reason why Aprilia and BMW don't make middleweights...tough segment. i seriously doubt it has anything to do with cost of manufacture its about making a big difference between the 2 bikes you want the better looking bike then you pay the premium to have it

i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.

no but I've spoke to at least one person that said they would never own one again.

Doubtful since they've never done anything to distinguish the middleweight from the big bike in the past.

< That frying pan avatar is the result of riding my 998.
A month ago I looked at buying an 1199 partially due to the underbelly exhaust. Not coming to terms with the CL seller I went away thinking "maybe someday soon Ducati will put the design to a mid-size". At this point I'd have to say I'm all in.
