At simple sight you can measure that the last portion of the axle that is not in, is the same used by the wheel to "space" it so the rotor and brake can work...

left side....

here you can see, if you compare the piece that is not in, with the thread of the axle, that is the problem, so I will take the spacer to a machinist an order a spacer - that portion left out + 0.01mm

is that the right course of action or do I buy the GT 1000 axle with spacers?

this is a pic from the spacers, GT 1000, as you can see they are 2, right and left side...

My simple head tells me, buy the whole axle with spacers... BUT the forks on the GT 1000 are adjustables, newer models etc, my forks are pre-adjusted ( fixed so to say ) ones, so I am not sure about the space between both lower forks at the axle hole...  [coffee]

IIRC, also, not to through a wrench into things, but you also need to check the brake calipers mounted to ensure they do not hit the spokes.
easiest way to do that now would be not to put the axle all the way in so you can have some movement on the wheel sideways. put the calipers on and make sure it all looks good.
you can tighten the pinch bolts and SLOWLY roll the bike forward to see if there's interference.

If all lines up
buy the axle and spacers and nut
you may have to machine the spacers, the most important alignments will be with your calipers/rotors and of course in line with your rear wheel.

Looks like you have the goldline "big" brakes. They're gonna interfere with the spokes.  [thumbsdown]

yeap, I guess another set of spacers for the rotors too, that way I will have more space between the brakes and the spokes

You may have to machine the calipers so they do not hit the spokes. There's a thread somewhere on here or ducati.ms about how to do it.

Since I have space between the wheel and the snow flackes I was planning on machining a set of spacers  [drink]

well after almost losing my arm yesterday a friend point me a "pro" service kind of "solution"  [wine]

hang it from the roof + jack stands... could work freely, no sweat, no collateral damage, just work  [beer]

returning to the measurement stuff:

Axle Monster 620ie 2002: Total length 250mm: left spacer: 30mm right spacer: 67mm Brembo total inner length left bearing+center spacer+right bearing: 110mm

So far from GT 1000: Spoke wheel total inner length left bearing+center spacer+right bearing: 118mm

Conclusion, today I bought the GT 1000 Axle, so my only concern right now would be either go back to use only 1 rotor, left of course, or buy both GT 1000 rotors + brakes  [coffee]

update:

  • GT 1000 Axle bought and it's on it's way
  • currently bidding on GT 1000 like new calipers + front line
  • waiting for rotors, another 320mm, this time round, not snow flakes anymore
