What's that thing on the right side? An air filter, or a spare mag for a Tommy gun?
Italians has Bredas not Thompsons. Air filter.

ahem
they did it once, they can do it again
That engine never made 65-70 HP. Ever.
Not that there's anything wrong with the 65-70 HP under 300 lbs wet package you're asking for.
It's a fun scooter, for sure.
There's only 14 people in the US who would actually buy them.

oh, i know that one never made 65 hp. or 56.. or anything north of 50. . i'm just saying it's in Ducati's DNA to have a single and given modern engines, they could do it.
a nice compact (narrow) single.
i believe more than 14 ppl would buy them. Cagiva had a mailing list for the mito 500 that was proposed (wth a husqy single) and apparently they got about 10,000 signups. if half of those would buy one, it's worth it.
people just need to try a lightweight bike (well, people under 300 lbs) and they love them.

Problem I see with this is that Ducati's reputation in the US is embodied by the panigale, street fighter, monsters, etc.---namely, a sexy fast italian sport or at least "sport-ish" bike. A < 300 lb one-cylinder fun bike doesn't fit that mold, so who would buy it? Sure, die-hards like us might get one, but the scrambler crowd is more a hipster crowd, and they are all broke which is half the reason they ride around on beat up old hondas that cost under $1000.
If the "style" one is trying to capture is old, classic, worn, and grungy, why buy a relatively pricey new italian bike? Not much market for $300 sweatpants.

I disagree about hipsters being too broke...the typical hipster I'm picturing are the silver spoon types who gentrify big cities. You can kinda tell this is exactly who Ducati is aiming at based on the promo vid. Over the last couple of years I've noticed a ton of them are picking up older UJM's and riding around in megaflake open faced helmets. I do hope you're right tho because I'm a bit loathsome of that ilk.

Yeah, I have the same visceral reaction to hipsters. However, I'm in favor of anyone getting into biking or buying more bikes---regardless of how annoying they are or how insincere their intentions or whatever. Simply put, the more bikers out there, the better it is for all of us.
And FTR: my broke comment was observational---I have no insight into a hipster's bank account but the ones around here ride old japanese bikes and modern bonnevilles, which both tend to be inexpensive. They also tend to live in less expensive rent areas. But yeah, it's an assumption.
But back to the duc scrambler.... I look forward to seeing the damn thing already without mysterious lighting or test-ride skins on or whatever.

You need to get out more.

(Snip) ...but the scrambler crowd is more a hipster crowd, and they are all broke which is half the reason they ride around on beat up old hondas that cost under $1000,
which they then proceed to spend another $3,000 on just to screw up a perfectly nice old bike.
fixed it for ya.

I do not think it will sell well to the hipster crowd. They hate florescent lights.

Here's a first impression from someone you trust.
They must have sorted the EFi as this prototype didn't have the 6-speed fitted at this time.

I want one, especially with the retro rocket on the front!
(apparently the gear is for "noise testing" - but I'm thinking it's the best camouflage tease yet for a new vehicle intro:
