S4RS Timing Belt Cover

I somehow managed to get the old timing belt covers off of the S4RS (the top cover is the problem child) but I had to bend it to the point it almost snapped. I'm trying to put on another set that is vented and made from thicker and less flexible material and can not get it in, the frame is just too close to the engine. Any of you pros have some tips on getting it in? Please don't say drop the engine

I had to remove the tank and the battery bracket to get that vertical belt cover off but I was checking valve clearance anyway.   Like you I bought vented covers and found it impossible to mount the vertical cover because of frame clearance.  I saw a picture of a S4Rs for sale on this forum with vented covers installed and asked if they had to remove the engine to mount them but didn't get a reply...  I've been thinking it might be possible to trim the bottom flared area of the vertical 999 cover and live with a small gap there...  Dropping the engine every time the belts need changing/adjusting is not an option.

I managed to get it on with only moving the fuse box and relay bracket. Had to chop the cover a bit to go slide over the tensioning pulley lock nut and also make a groove to clear interference with the frame. I bought the SSR covers, but I'm not really impressed. They look pretty, but are heavy and the fitment between the three pieces in the overlap was subpar and required filing. If I could have found some stock plastic ones to modify, I would have. Any idea what goes where the intake is on these? There are some threaded inserts and I'm not sure what goes there, couldn't find anything on the parts diagrams for the 998 or 999.

Just in case you were not already aware, it is best to exercise some caution while cutting CF and wear a dust mask/respirator and gloves to protect your hand. CF whiskers/fibers have the possibility of imbedding into flesh, and if it does happen they are extremely difficult to remove completely. Doesn't mean it will always happen if unprotected, just that if it does it can be a serious condition.

I managed to find a set of the plastic ones - there is a small piece that holds a black foam filter that screws on there.  The foam has kinda large holes in it and it keeps bugs etc. from getting scooped in.

edit:  Oh yeah, your bike looks great and the covers look good on it!

Thanks guys! Thank you for the reminder on CF, I've been getting worse about shop safety and intend to take a round turn on that. I'll see if I can't find the foam filter/bracket. I was trying to think of the best way to homebrew one but I'll go the stock route if possible.

I can't seem to find this part. Any chance you know the part number or could post a picture of it?

Here are a couple of pics:
The part number of the belt cover is 245.1.060.1A  and the small part says something like 'SO/GEFI filtration' on it.  I do not see a separate pn on it.
