Took off my clutch cover for powder coating and there's a black lining piece in it that's bolted in. Bolts come out but the lining doesnt come out. Can I leave it in during powder coating? It appears to be metal? Maybe aluminum. Any insight appreciated.

In the workshop manual it's described as removable by hand after the bolts are out.

Try again?

I have no idea about what material it is, but wouldn't it suck to discover it's made of plastic...

I believe it is there to dampen clutch noise. Mine came out with a tug. I discarded that item when I replaced my APTC with a good ol' standard from an 800.

It looks like its some kind of metal with a rubber material lining between it and the clutch basket. I'm tugging but it's not coming out. I could try prying it with a large screw driver but Im worried about bending and or damaging it. Not sure how the rubber in there will fare in the PC overn and if I should keep trying to get it out. So far it aint budging.  Undecided

I'd keep pulling. If it breaks, then decide if you'll go without or buy a new.

A very large flat head screw driver along the edges hit with a mallet between the clutch cover case and the black lining Didnt bend or break and loosend right up and came off.
