"The 899 looks like the 1199 to keep the family DNA and it gets all the goodies that its bigger sibling uses"

Except the SSS!    Cry
Which is so aesthetically pleasing

Existing 848 owners may be somewhat disappointed by these numbers; the 899 is only 8bhp up on the 848 Evo, develops identical torque and weighs slightly more, while carrying a $1,000 premium.

So this is an improvement?

It'll be interesting to see the comparisons.  Hope they did the stock suspension better but don't hold your breath.

The 749 was leaps and bounds better than the 748 except for certain rare electrical problems ( and those were an improvement over the 748 anyway ) and then there are the perennial aesthetics arguments.  No doubt that the 848 was a vast improvement over the 749 and even an arguable improvement over the 999.  In this case the differentiation might not be so marked.  Possibly better looking but manners wise has yet to be determined.  I sure hope the stock suspension works good right out of the box otherwise it might be hard to justify it.  It'll be easier to handle than the 1199 power wise but that's not the only consideration.

It's starting to grow on me........ Dolph

The two write ups in Motorcyclist and Sport Rider make it sound tempting.

Then there is this...........

Oh boy!

I was reading the new Sport Rider.  Listed MSRP for a 899 is $14,995.  That is almost the exact same price as a base model Aprilia RSV4R or for $150.00 more you can get a BMW S1000RR.  That absolutely begs the question why get an 899?

Easy answer, you wouldn't.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw that—it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

True that!  Unless you were a tried & true dyed in the wool Ducati freak. I like Ducs but not that much.

I couldn't be more happy with my 899!  This thing rides pretty damn sweet!   Not everyone is looking to have /need the power of the liter bikes.  I think the 899's are a pretty good bike for Oahu.   Grin
