Clutch slave slowly leaking - need advice

I have a 2001 M600 w/ 3K miles (I have put on 2K miles in the last 5 months).  My friction zone has started slowly moving towards the handlebars in the last few weeks, and then I started loosing pressure in the clutch lever.

Pulled the clutch reservoir lid and it was bone dry.  Yikes.  Topped it off and bled.  Found slight brake fluid residue on the sprocket cover, right near the bottom of the slave.  Haven't pulled the slave off yet to look closer, but don't know what else it could be.  Master doesn't show any signs of leaking.  Works fine now but I'm thinking this may only last for so long.

Need advice on what to do.  The 2001 slave is NOT rebuildable, correct?  Don't have much money at the moment... so what would be a wise move for me?  Buy a used one off someone?  Are there any affordable aftermarket solutions?

if it's leaking you need a new one, could be the o-ring, but, . . . given the age of your OEM slave . . . . . given you are far away, best bet would be to get a new one, a used one is a gamble . . .

'01 and newer slaves are not rebuildable.  A new slave is in order.

I had a similar issue on my '07 M695. I replaced the slave o-ring and the two pushrod o-rings and no more leak. It cost $3. Might be worth a try first -it's a pretty quick and painless job.

Interesting.  Well maybe that's worth a shot before dropping $200 on a new slave.  Can you give me a quick break-down on how to do this?

Pull off the plastic sprocket cover, then remove the three bolts on the slave and it should pull off easily. There's a larger o-ring that sits in the depression where the slave mates with the case. The pushrod should pull out without much effort. You'll see that the rod has two grooves with small o-rings seated in each groove. Might need a small metal pick to get them out of the grooves.  Put back together in reverse order. Just be sure not to grab the clutch lever while the slave is off.  ;)

Sounds super easy.  Thanks man!

That is a repair for an engine oil leak, not a slave brake fluid leak.

If that is the case... then I am confused again.

You need a new slave.

The O rings on the push rod prevent oil from leaking out of the engine.  You are leaking brake fluid from the slave.  That seal is inside the slave cannot be replaced in 2001 and newer slaves.  Buy an after market slave from one of our sponsors.

Ok thanks.  Are they not rebuildable because no one offers rebuild kits?  Or is it because you cannot take them apart for some reason?

Anyone have any recommendations on a good aftermarket slave (that is somewhat affordable)?

Howie

Both.  I have a Yoyodyne on mine.  http://www.yoyodyneti.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=D002  AFAIK, they are all pretty good.  Even the OEM ain't bad, I had 40 some odd K miles on my original and it was just starting to weep.

Okay I got my new slave today!  Big thanks to Jeff @ Monsterparts for the quick and awesome service!

Question for you all... Here is everything I received.  Am I missing anything?  Is there a gasket that goes between the slave and the motor case?  Or does this guy just slap right on?
