Thanks ducpainter. And like I've been frequently reminded before, most everything you need to know has already been discussed in depth somewhere on this board.
I've also been taught to never pass up an opportunity to stfu.

The power company has been doing transmission line inspections from a helicopter. Flying way to close for me comfort.
I saw a video a few years back of linemen who do transmission line repairs from a helicopter. Both the pilot and the worker are crazy.

Yes. Out of their minds.
Yep, just grab ahold of this riding crop with wire on it, go BZZZZZTTTT to the line, clip on, and Bob's yer uncle.
Those spacer contraptions and his handy dandy set of locking pliers, those are nice kit.
Looks as if he's been doing it a day or two.
Glad he seems to be good with it.
Not likely going to see it on my resume'. Ever.

I only have one question about the guys sitting on the wire...
why bother with the hard hat? I mean seriously...how the hell will it help?

Probably some OSHA BS reg, or something.
Mary would know.
I just know it is nicer to be inside the box than outside. Sitting on wires is for the birds.

Perhaps some protection against rotorblast FOD for the top of their head.
Though one may logically ask where said FO comes from that's not flight critical.
