Buying a used Sargent seat
«
on:
October 12, 2013, 06:53:52 PM »
A new one is more than I care to spend, but I found a used one that looks brand new all around. Question is, do these seats tend to form to the owner, making it potentially uncomfortable for me? Any reasons not to buy one second-hand?
Thanks.

I bought a used one, great seat. I had it modified to suit a pillion. Great for the rider, but not much for the pillion.

Bought a used bike that came w/ a Sargent seat. Didn't have any issues with it formed to the previous owner but mine was super slick. I slide around on it to much so I usually ride with the stock seat.

I bought a used one for my 750 and noticed no previous owner butt imprints. I found it to be an upgrade from the stock seat.

You could try a mixture of mineral oil and candle wax melted together and spread onto the seat. It would give it some grip without being sticky. ( I normally use beeswax, butt if it isn't descented enough it might attract wasps or something!)
p.s.- it is also great for cutting boards and wooden knife handles!

I'll have to try that.
Thanks

I bought a used sargent as well.
It is, hands down the best mod I ever purchased for the monster, and that includes SBK forks, ohlins shock, micron exhaust and a few other pricey goodies.
Ass comfort is number one in my books.

My buddy has a Sargent seat on his M900. I really like the seat because it is wide and firm (not 'hard'). It is slick enough I don't have any trouble moving around on the seat, and I consider it a good improvement over stock.

Thanks for all the feedback. Much appreciated. I missed out on the seat (outbid), but I'm still in the hunt now that I know there are no issues.
Thanks again

Quick question; does anyone know when they stopped putting the Italian flag on them? I'm looking at another that's supposedly new but has a flag on it. Seems they may have quit doing it around 2011, though...

It was an optional cosmetic feature, though I don't know if it is still being offered.

My fresh July, 2011 seat has the same small label with Sargent and the tricolor under that shown on the website currently. To delete that label at the time would have been the "option" per Troy at Sargent.
