 After the tank of the prototype, why on earth did they make the production version SO ugly? BMW seems to be allergic to nice looking products!

it's really growing on me, even the horizontal engine.  I still dont understand the exhaust...that left side looks so nice, I want to open it up. id run it super naked. get rid of the rear pillon, the front fender, shorty exhaust, bar end mirrors. just a seat, wheels and motor.

I like it a lot.  BMW guys typically like Ducati's and vice versa.  I have both.  We are drawn to these brands because of the quality, high performance, and attention to detail.  And also because we're euro trash.

Stopped by the local dealer to inquire on pricing.
No final figures on pricing have been released by BMW. However, BMW has released info that it will be priced below the R 1200, so less than $14k.
So I'm gonna say $13,999.  :

Dealer confirmed this will be a limited run, likely just this 2014 model year. Production to end when all 1200cc air cooled motors are gone. BMW has switched to water cooled for the new 1200cc motors.

The only option on these bikes will be an anti-theft alarm.

I like this bike a lot and betcha it's big fun.

When they remove the tail piece it looks like a bee that's stung something and lost half it's ass, other than that the styling is agreeable for me, once you put some bar end mirrors on it.

The real question on this site is, how many guys would trade their Monster for it?  Not me.  Admiring is different than wanting.

If they ever pave the road out here, or if I move back to a paved/civilized setting, I would go try one on for size.  I don't physically fit the Monster very well (the closest being the S2R1000), and I am still not a fan of the "new Monster" styling.   Honestly, based on pics, I prefer the NineT to the current Monsters.

So yeah, if life circumstances were different, I'd go try it on and consider purchasing one.

I just don't dig it. They seem to be going for the older Monster look, but then you leave a gap between headlight and cluster, the frame is kinda all over the place and don't get me started on the engine. The tank is too big as well.

That's not just a gas tank.  It's a compartment for your passenger, luggage, coffee mugs, iPad, GPS, satellite radio, radar detector, laser detector and homing beacon.
