Why the 1098 over the 848? Seems like the 848 would make the correct amount of power for you/ anyone looking to shred around an urban environment… and be a lesser investment.

Chris - its the price. A new 848 would cost about the same OTD. I still absolutely adore the SF848.

Joshua- weird, right? The dealer said they had FOUR of them and just sent 2 to auction.

There has been one at my local dealer for $1000 less OTD. I almost bought it on several occasions, but I greatly dislike the frame color and that what I have read about those bikes are the 10' seemed to have the most problems with the F.I. And tank swelling.

Four years collecting dust and they've sent two off for auction? You've got some major bargaining power there, but if you go in with that hard to resist starry-eyed gotta have it look you're a gonner. Do you know what the two that went to auction went for?

I rode the SF1098 with the Termi's and ECU installed.  It was a great bike.  I would prefer to get one with that already done instead of a brand new, stock one.  Once you buy it, it will simply be a four year old used bike.  A year from now your new bike will be worth a little less than a similar SF with the Termis and ECU already installed.  Also it won't be as enjoyable.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

I hate to say it... but THIS.  If its been sitting for 4 years I wouldn't really call it a brand new bike.  If anything something that has been ridden lightly for the last 4 years might be in better condition.  I don't think this is a bad move on your part, I would just hope that you are negotiating them down on the price.

Yeah I'm not so stoked on it after some deep thinking. Plus it's not the right color. I still would like at least a partial warranty. Looks like I can get low mileage 848's with close to the full 2 years all day long for around $10,500, and low mileage F1098S's for around $12,500.

I just remember how I dawdled on the Sport Classic I wanted when they were 8k, then out of nowhere they became desirable and shot through the roof. I want to be impulsive, and not *too* stupid in the process.

And I wasn't kidding about wanting talked out of it. The last time I had this fun/excited/breathless feeling in my gut before a major purchase I wound up divorced and on my parents couch 3 months later. :D

OK. Yep, in 1986 I didnt listen to my gut and the same thing happened.
Get a used SF with all the goodies on it. .Save big $$$ on depreciation and the Termi kit. [thumbsup]

If the bike is NOS, as in never titled, you will still get the full warranty with purchase.
