Id pass. Find a clean low mileage used one with extras for a few thousand less.

Example:

That is the one I would get. It has just been properly broken in and serviced. It has a lot of the high quality (expensive) mods that most people like. It is already $3K less expensive and that is negotiable.  Time for a road trip.

Get it if you can budget in the ecu flash and and exhaust ($2k or so).  Otherwise find one with the goodies installed.  It is also not a true 15k service interval, the valve check is still due every 7500, and it is a 4 figure job  Embarrassed

The the Testra in the 848 is a "true" 15k service interval, no? I guess I'd still want to at least check the valves more frequently. Another thing about buying used that makes me nervous is whether or not it was properly broken in. A new bike = lots of inner peace.

The addition of ABS and all the brake and suspension goodies on the 1098S is more appealing to me than the engine. All that stuff is close to ten grand purchased and installed separately.

Oh and thanks very much guys for the links to the preowned SFS's. Makes it really tough to buy new when you see $5000 worth of mods you'd have done anyway, and a price several thousand dollars lower.

I love my '10 SFS and I would suggest going used too... I managed to find mine with some basic mods done (speedymoto sliders all around and a yoyodyne slave) with 4k miles, 2 yrs old for 12,750.

Things you're going to to have to look out for is a possible dead spot around the 4k rpm range... it's a major complaint that a lot of SF1098 owners have that can be fixed via flashing or other assorted methods... then again, a lot of people also dont ever experience it (e.g. me).  And naturally, if it's been sitting a while, check for tank swelling and caswell it after you get a new one if possible.

you can see/hear mine in this vid... put in a speedymoto clutch cover and slave + zard full system + dp full system reflash via ducatidiag and called it a day. Smiley

Earlier today I drove by the Ducati dealer and saw the SF848 demo that sits outside. I test rode that bike last spring. That is the Streetfighter model I would choose. The Streetfighter looks best with a red frame and bodywork. It handles great and the brakes are wonderful.  I remember the power was strong. With the SF848 you get to enjoy the acceleration longer before you have to back off the throttle when compared to the SF1098.

I'd be perfectly happy if not happier with the 848 mill but I really want those S upgrades and the dry clutch. I have a barely used Ducabike slipper in my 900 that I'd swap right in first thing.

Sounds fantastic. They look awesome with the titanium colored frame as well. Zard makes the coolest looking exhausts.

Yep, the safety pack just makes it easier to ride on the edge with a bit more confidence. Highly recommended.
