Yellow license plate cover
«
on:
January 25, 2014, 09:16:33 AM »
Hello,
I am looking to purchase a translucent yellow license plate cover for my 696 Monster. I have seen them before but I cannot find one. I have done some internet research still no luck. Has anyone seen one of these and has any idea where I could get one?
Thanks in advance

You might have to fab your own. I think they're hard to come by because they're illegal in many places. Be sure to check your local laws (if you haven't already); fines can be pretty steep in some parts.

Yep. Most places in the US only allow for a clear, flat cover. Tinted, prismatic, glitter etc covers are no nos

Have you tried just buying that stuff used to put over lights for theaters and plays? Celluloid paper I think? Get a clear license plate cover and slide one of those sheets in yellow (or whatever color you want) in between. Maybe tack it on in the corners with glue so it doesn't move around. Just a cheap DIY option if you can't find a legitimate one.

Tap Plastics is a great source for this sort of thing. I used them for mirrored acrylic to make a lens for a mirror, and a piece of textured material for a light in the AirStream, and some black shims for the Bimota's notoriously useless mirror pods.

Canadians have been known to reside elsewhere than Canada
.
I think our Canadian friend is just being offered some general heads up friendly advice about potentially upsetting
with his yellow number plate cover
.
I suggest he move to New South Wales....
..... where banana yellow is fully approved

And many of the Canadian driving laws are quite similar to those found in the US. I'd expect that doing something to significantly alter the appearance of a plate - which would probably include a color shift would run afoul of the motor codes

FTR, my original post was not meant to be obnoxious. I just noted that he was (likely) Canadian, so US laws may not be applicable. And since replies were more about laws and not yellow license plate options, I thought I'd try to redirect. Apologies if the tone came off wrong. Maybe it was the italics that did it---should've used a smiley face instead.
Anyway, welcome aboard Canadianguy. If you are, in fact, located in CAN, I feel for you---we're having an awful winter here in NY and, with all the farkles I recently bought for my bike, I just want to get out and ride but I'm too much of a wuss to go out in anything under 50*.

I never took anything you said as obnoxious mate
. OP asked a question and you offered him a solution
. Sorry if my smart-arse responses gave the impression I was having a go at you (or anybody else). Not at all, just mucking around is all mate
