Give Oak at Motoready a call, 636-3554.  He is a small one man shop that keeps a few of us Austin Ducati lovers on the road.  If nothing else he will point you in the right direction, and he is a great guy to boot.

also check out the engines of stopintime and kopfjager.

you'll note that the 840 doesn't rev high.  it has st2 cams, good heads and short manifolds.  there's not really any wild cams for paso style 2v, unlike the pantah motors.

the 98 on small block is better than previous ones, but the big block is a bit more durable and the wide ration 6 speed is a real 6 speed.  get a 2001 onward 900ssie motor, the oiling is better and some other benefits.  or you can use an st2, st4 or s4 bottom end as easily with the right crank, etc.

bruce meyers did an 853cc 2v motor with a honda civic rod i believe.  or just get some carrillos.  doug lofgren has done some short stroke 900 style motors.

11 is a lot for those big heavy valves.  it'll just beat shit out of the valve train.  if i build a 4v motor i try to keep them under 10 too.

well....
since I am not made of money and the bottom end arrived yesterday
I will have to stick with the 800
the 800 heads will be arriving next week
I will send those out, probably to Bruce Meyers
if I need to keep it under 10k rpms maybe it wouldn't be necessary to have the crank work done
but I would love to have it lightened and balanced

I was planning on carillo rods though
not sure where to locate ST2 cams they seem to be hard to come by

I thought the 800 heads already came with carbie cams Huh?

Brad you mention a "real" 6 speed trans in the bigger case motor,
why is that?
are you referring to the close 1-2-3 gears and spread out 4-5-6 ??

which is preferable, close ratio or wide ratio ??

the Loud bike mentioned above ended up with the 5 speed trans

I spole to the guys at AF1 yesterday and they seem very cool,
plus they have a dyno and are set up for custom mapping etc.

anyway anymore insight would be appreciated

building a hot rod motor on a budget seems like an oxymoron

to be continued
