Beware Cheap Fairing Screens

As per my post in the Gear section, one injury I sustained in my track crash that I forgot to mention was some gouges/slices of flesh removed from my R hand.

Upon examining the bike I noticed that where I smashed through the screen, there were very thick, glass like, jagged bits of Perspex. The screen was a cheap Chinese made screen with no compliance numbers. It was in my box of spares that came with the bike and I liked the look of it so I used it instead of the locally made one that came with my fresh new fairings (always the way [laugh]). I know it's a cheap knock off because the fairings that it belonged to were identified by my local fairing guys (two different shops). The screen was very dangerous. It sliced right through my new gloves like a knife and gave me the only loss of skin in the crash. Not crashworthy.

It is disturbing that the shards left over where hard, pointed and dagger like :o. They were so bad that I could have been gutted or lost my balls (really). It's the most upsetting part of the crash now I think about it as it could have done me in.

Don't buy cheap shit, it can cut your balls off.
