while the peak power output may be similar, the 848 is 71% of the 1200 capacity wise, so will have about 71% of the peak torque.  30% less is a lot, and the 848 delivers it with rpm.  they're quite nice with the lambda sensors turned off, but there's not much going on down low.  wind it on, wait for it.  they are very much an arse in the air kind of bike.  my nuts don't like the loading into the tank so much.

I know this guy in NH and can guarantee how the paint job will turn out. In fact I'd be willing to bet you'll be so happy that you'd be willing to pay more.

buddy at work has 2 bikes, first it was 696 + Panigale.  Now it's Panigale + M1200.

Told me Thursday after only have the 1200 for less than a week "I don't even want my Panigale any more, the Monster is just more fun to ride."  Now that said, it might be just new-shiny of it hasn't worn off to see any down sides, but still, a pretty powerful statement.

Almost everyone I talked to and from what I've read the 848 SF although obviously not as fast as a 1098 SF Is a better ride in terms of control and across a variety of riding styles e.g. Urban, touring and sport. I've also heard the SF 1098 isn't happy in low gears and/or low RPM's. If I just wanted a fast track bike is get a Panigale. I think I'm just going to wait for the 1200 to come in black and save up for the S and Term is.

I think I'm just gonna wait for a Monster 1200 in Black ... as that's what I really want. When you're paying that much you should get what you want. Hope the wait is less than 2 yrs and not over 4!!  Although the MV Agusta Brutale Dragster is pretty dope!!!

Although the MV Agusta Brutale Dragster is pretty dope!!!

+1 but note that the Dragster is an 800. I would not mind getting the 800 triple, but there's no replacement for displacement.

Just test rode the new 1200S.  What a powerful machine.  It only had 12 miles on her so I didn't woop on her but she still went like a wild cat.  Back to the shop with 34 miles on the odo now.  I rode my 2006 S2R1000 to the shop and I also rode her home.  I'd add the 1200 to the stable but wouldn't trade my "06" for her.   The seating was fantastic and I'm sure I could easily handle 600-700+ mile road days on her.  The power will be super scary terrific when she's broken in.

There is not that much to paint on these puppies and good painters are easy to find, the clutch/neutral issue will go away with break in, and who needs a gear indicator? I worried about that when I went from a BMWK1200 RS to a R1100S and got over it!

The frame would be the hardest part to paint.  Kind of have to remove the engine to do that right.

Personally, I would love to have a gear indicator.  Is it necessary?  No, of course not.  But it is definitely nice to have and I have no idea why the top of the line Monster doesn't have it.
