I do like the looks of the older bikes a bit better - my evo looks a bit "cartoonish" from the front in my opinion, but I was also under the impression I was looking at a 1000, not an 800.  It's certainly a nice machine, but I'd miss the loud handle on the 1100 too much I think, and you can't see the headlight from behind the bars.

Is seeing the headlight important?

There is only one solution to this problem.  Buy this bike and keep your 1100 EVO!   Vino!

Can you do the valves/belts yourself?  It's not terribly difficult if you have the tools and patience.  I'm getting ready to do mine soon, I'm only 300 miles short of the 15,000 mile mark on my Monster 1100 EVO.

I wish I could do the valves and belts myself.  However I bought the five year unlimited mileage extended warranty and the option is not on the table.  I would prefer to do the work myself but I thought the coverage worth it.  Especially as it is my plan to have 50k on the bike by the time it runs out.

What did they charge you for that if you don't mind me asking?  My bike is out of warranty 1 year already.
