Bike Wash - where in NYC area?
«
on:
July 11, 2008, 08:15:02 AM »
So I'm paying the price for maintenance negligence, and before I go through major night of mods next week (tires, chain, sprockets, etc.) I wanted to get my bike cleaned.
I can't do it either at my building or in the garage where my bike lives.
Where can I go and spend some quality time getting tons of grime off my bike?
Thanks!

Tommy - there's a hose at the garage where we'll change your tires.

Alrighty! I'll bring the chemicals and brushes!!
I REALLY hope that evening won't be neverending...
I just realized I'm gonna miss the Rush show at Jones Beach for this...

Ok, now that my dilemma has been solved, let me open this thread back up to everyone else! [moto]
Where can someone go in the greater NYC area to go wash their bike?
Anyone?

My garage allows washing...but I usually clean the bike with WD-40 instead of water.

There's a Mobil along side the BQE that has the pressure washer. You buy a token from the guy in the booth for like 3 bucks and you get a good amount of time to use the pressure washer. I usually head there w/ a back pack full of: soap, sponge, chamois cloth, chain lube, and shop towels. The only thing is that when you wash the bike you must be mindful to give yourself a 3-4 feet of distance between the hose and the bike as the pressure from the water can rip hoses, brackets, fairings, etc off the bike easily. But as long as you exercise care, it does a pretty good job.
I can't remember the intersection it's located at, I'll find out next time I go, but if you're headed Queens-bound on the BQE from the Brooklyn Bridge, it's alongside an elevated section of the highway on the left, shortly before the metropolitan Ave Exit.
