Isn't a true cafe racer...
I agree based on the historical origination of "cafe racer". However, the definition has clearly expanded to reflect a certain look nowadays, and in the process it has become pretty much unhinged from its original reference to stripped down bikes aimed at achieving "the ton".
Language is organic, maannnnn. Quit trying to put things in neat little boxes!

Oh I'm normally fine with colloquial irregularities. But as far as motorcycles go a spade is a spade!

First bike was a chopper, unless you're referring to the one the won the Monster Challenge.
Even with that Spidey's Monster is stunning in person.

spidey's bike is cool, but not as cafe as stu's first bike
I'm wit' ya. I don't think of mine as "cafe." It's purty though (but way less so as I continue to beat the shit out of it). Stu's 750CR . . . now that's a cafe racer.

I'm sure there are pics on the board of these, but can we get a re-post here for convenience? Never saw.

2. See above. Or I can show you a pic of the IZ-nail I got in my tire the other day? :'( Edit, here's a cafe-esque ass-shot of mine:

The term Cafe Racer has definitely become open to interpretation. My personal take would require the following:
Naked !!! No fairings!! including bikini headlight fairings! (with the exception of a bubble fairing - hey I just love those sorry.)
Low set handle bars (e.g. clip-ons, clubman etc.) giving you a forward aggressive riding position
Classic Round headlight - you put one of those trapezoidal headlights on and now it looks like a SF.
I dont think it has to be "modified" to be a Cafe Racer. As some bikes IMO are cafe racers right out of the factory. e.g. the New Norton 961s
or the Ducati Sport 1000S or Sport 1000 Classic.
Really the term just comes in handy because how do you categorize your bike to a laymen when you have to? Sport bike? Cruiser? Chopper? Bobber? I think Cafe is the best description for the Monster for sure. Maybe we need to invent a new term to describe Ducati Monsters.

Stu's 750 is the epitome of cafe racer!

Is it a cafe racer? Not really but found this in my search for Duc cafe bikes. It was just too sweet not to post. Just pretend it's sitting in front of a Starbucks..

Spidey: thanks for posting the pics.
What is the purpose of the rod connecting the rear caliper to the engine case on Duck Stu's bike?

Most Monsters have a lug on the swing arm to serve the same purpose...keeps the caliper from winding up like a top.
The rod is just way cooler.
