I'm High When I Ride!

« on: August 27, 2014, 01:28:49 PM »

My trip early this year to Yosemite and SF. I rode one day Thru Sequoia National Park to Fresno.  Then Fresno thru Yosemite to Oakland.
Then stayed in SF for the Bay to Breaker.  Finally riding back to OC down the PCH Rt 1.

portion of the ride was quite exhilarating, I was the only biker o the road and couldn't help think that if anything happens to me, I will be waiting for hours even days.  I was trying my best to not ride in the back roads in the dark.  The bike stalled at one point and I had to bump start it, this was the nightmare I thought about.  Thank you for looking..

 Awesome ride!

I live in Fresno and occasionally I ride a loop from  the hwy 41 south gate, thru Yosemite valley, out the west gate to the hwy 140, which is nice and twisty!

My only fears are running out of fuel in that vast wilderness or being knocked over and attacked by a hungry bear or deer that have little fear of humans.

 Great pics!

I always enjoy other DMFers ride postings from parts of the world I'm yet to see for myself.

Thanks for posting  waytogo

I do day rides up through Yosemite all the time.  Love going up 120!  Sounds like you had a nice trip!

BTW just trying to figure out where to ride this weekend.  Last weekend was out to Lake County, down to Point Reyes and out through the Bay Area via the Golden Gate.  Had to stop in downtown to check out the Dainese Store.   Evil

Now what is or shall I say are the best routes through Yosemite?  A friend and I will be riding through there at the end of next month.

I love going up highway 120.  After that you can go through the pass and over to highway 395 and then up and over Highway 4 near Markleeville known as Ebbet's Pass.  Best unknown route in the Sierras IMO.

I went up Rt 41 from Fresno, then thru 120, up 395 and cross back on 108.
120 was amazing, freshly paved the 1st half.  You will run into slow cars, RV, and trucks.  Relax and take in the sceneries, gorgeous!

Rt 4 looks amazing too, I look forward to that next time, there will always be a next time.

There is this joy in riding alone, your thoughts are running, and some of the back roads are a bit scary yet exciting you'll hunger for more.

Half Dome!

Thanks for the road recommendations.  I have to say we are doing the one way Hardley rentals so slow wont be a problem although I get pregnant doged at for going to fast on my ole pig, hence why I ride with two or three friends who have sport bikes too.  We got the bikes for $50/day from Fresno to San Fran with 5 days of riding with no mileage.  They didn't have the MTS but maybe one day.

Been over twenty years since I've been to Yosemite. Rode there on a 1973 Triumph 750 Bonneville and camped there in a log cabin for a weekend. Very beautiful place.

Awesome - did the same (almost) a couple of weeks ago.  Went over the Tioga Pass, and down through the 395 through Bishop.  Writeup forthcoming....   applause
