I am new to dukes, and essentially I have been trawling the web looking for a list of good sites to use for the best pricing of aftermart parts for monsters that will ship to Aus. Can someone here point me to the thread I failed to find, if it does not yet exist, perhaps you learned peoples can impart some of your hard earned knowledge of where to find the best deals on monster bits online?

Initially I am looking for a red belly pan (carbon if no coloured ones can be found) for a s2r 1000 and sometime soon, a termi system to replace my stockers exhausts. Oh and do any of you cats have skills in coring stock pipes? I have no tools at my disposal (life of an inner-city flat dweller!)...

please let me know if there are any other basic mods I should look into as good starts too.

thanks guys, look forward to meeting you out there on a ride once I have my duc on the road!

You know, this is a bit of an ongoing drama.

In Australia, some parts are massively more expensive than the same parts in Europe or the US. Hell, the price of an S4R in Aus is $25 000 here, about $15 000 in the US.

So for some things, it makes sense to price them both here, and in the US. If you can get it on Ebay from a reputable seller, you can go that route. Alternatively you can use an 'agent' in the US to do the same thing for you: a friend of mine started a business 6 months ago doing exactly this - people in the US fill the order, and ship it to you direct for as little as half the price of the same item in Aus.

As for local sells, I generally go through Zagame Automotive in Melbourne - they've always been more than fair with me.

Hey Luke,

We did have a list of recommended vendors at our previous home (bit of a long story), perhaps it is worth starting in here? But if you have a specific thing in mind chances are somebody has already been there.

Don't have a bellypan myself (or termis/cored cans for that matter) but I know that Monster Parts sell them in the US - now some people have fallen off Monster Parts (related to long story above), but I have bought stuff from Jeff in the past and found him to be helpful and easy to deal with. Anyhow, don't know if this is against forum rules Tongue, but linkies:

http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/ZU-C13MONGRP/Bodywork-Carbon/ZU-C13MONGRP.html

http://www.monsterparts.com/c/Bodywork-Carbon/Bodywork-Carbon.html

As for purchasing bits, most tend to buy from overseas as the exhange rate is working well in our favour. Just be mindful of shipping costs, you may get burnt by some vendors. Also customs might want in on the action if the value is high enough - under $1000 through the post shouldn't cause too many dramas but I believe it is less if via courier.

.... looking for a list of good sites to use for the best pricing of aftermart parts for monsters that will ship to Aus.

Hi Luke, welcome!

PJs Parts
Run by a very friendly couple - PJ and Paige - Mostly known for the excellent service and supplying Rizoma parts - also do other brands like Mivv exhausts and the like (which sound excellent, just ask anyone who's followed Mattyvas round some twisties).

Are very accommodating to Oz customers, and are probably the most recommended ducati parts supplier on the DMF - highly recommended.
BTW, they have also acted as agents on occasion, and taken delivery of an ebay purchase to consolidate with an order they are about to ship to you - not sure if that is a one off or something they are willing to do ongoing, but worth an ask..

CA Cycleworks
Run by Chris Kelly. You'll find a lot of useful maintenance bits and pieces here, and loads of good advice.
Again, very accommodating of Oz Customers. Chris also authored www.ducatisuite.com which is an excellent DIY maintenance site for ducati's, and has also produced a number of instructional videos, which you will find on the ducati suite site and on the DMF tech forum.

Moto Wheels
Martin at motowheels is a long time supporter of the DML / DMF and has a good range of stuff. I've purchased a couple of things from him and have found him to be very good as well.

Desmo Times
LT Snider - author of a great maintenance book and creator and supplier of general maintenance and modification stuff - not so much bling, more maintenance..

Monster Parts
Jeff H of the DML's business. A great resource for monster centric parts, great guy and very good to deal with.

You'll note that all my recommendations are from the US - hard to go past the US given the sheer amount of availability and our current exchange rate!
Anyway, that's a start - I'm sure others will suggest more options. Don't forget to check what the DMF sponsors have as well!

please let me know if there are any other basic mods I should look into as good starts too.

The first things a lot of people do:

14 tooth front sprocket - less top end speed, but much more friendly at low speed. cheap mod - typ around $100 fitted
Pipes - but you already know that!
from there you either go:
- bling - billet, carbon, mirrors, indicators, stripes, paint and the like
- performance enhancing bling - pipes, ECU upgrades / carb rejetting, power commanders, open airboxes etc

or a combination of the two  waytogo
for some extreme examples, check out melvin and mattyvas in the show us your ride thread!

Lastly, there's a lot of us in Syd - you'll find a few of us hanging at Bar Italia on a Thursday night from 8pm, or at Mecca Espresso, king and york st Sydney on a Saturday morning from 10ish. Oh yeah, and we go for rides as well! The next big ride is 2nd August - most rides are well posted on the Oz Monster forum.

I have also used a number of US based suppliers like Monster parts, Ca Cycleworks, Moto wheels and a number of others.

As betty said the Shipping charges are the killer for most people, I find Jeff at Monsterparts and Chris at Ca Cycleworks shipping charges have been the best so far and very prompt in there delivery time. Also both Jeff and Chris were excellent in there advice and information.

I have found Moto Wheels delivery time and charges are the worst (Sorry, I know he is a board sponsor, just being honest) Granted I dealt with them once only, but once was enough for me.

Look around on web and you'll be amazed who you will find, and if your not sure drop in and ask, That's what I did when I wasn't sure and all of the OZ Monster family will point you in the right direction.

Bugger, just repeated some of what Goldfish has already said. Posted at roughly the same time...

I don't know of any issue with Jeff and or Monster Parts from the DMF - and certainly there are no rules against posting a link to his business! As one of our own is a Flounder on the DMF, perhaps he can set the official record straight (paging bigiain!)

The only thing I could think he's referring to, There was a lot of hate floating around towards Jeff when the other board was sold, And I remember seeing a number of people on TOB saying they were never going to deal with Jeff again.

I think a lot of nasty things were said at the time, but I think for the most part people have moved on.

Every time I talk to Jeff, he can't be doing to badly, He's been very busy and having a hell of a time keeping up with all the orders (And the Exchange rate)

I'll give the three thumbs up for Jeff at Monsterparts - I just started a public thank you thread - he has been amazing when it comes to helping me with my mods  waytogo waytogo waytogo

Chris (CA), Motowheels and PJ's have also had business with me - great each time. Check out PJ's - the shipping and response time is amazing.

Enjoy your mods! it's an addictive little disease.

yeah, people failed to see that the board was sold 9 months before it was changed...and we know that VS was well and truly advised to keep the current format and went against it.

Yeah I was partially taking the piss. I know there are a few people out there (main board) angry at Jeff for the way things went. Would be good to clarify officially though  Wink

+ 1 for Jeff at monsterparts.
14 t front sprocket, do it yourself  for about $50 just needs tools you should have for basic maintenance anyway.
What part of the world are you in? can help you with the muffler coring if you want too. ( I'm in Bris)

Surprised nobody's made direct mention of Shift-Tech.com also in The States, as far as quality Carbon parts go... Plus they offer 10% discount for forum users (multistrada.net, ducati.ms, etc.-- dunno bout their awareness of DMF though yet).

Having purchased a Hugger from them for my HM, I can vouch for how much better these guys' parts are compared to OEM.

Also would like to buy from ProItalia.com for range and price of OEM goods, but can't say I've ever dealt with them yet.

Coring is easy as piss. Stay tuned, I know someone who may have some for sale at a reasonable amount soon.
+1 monsterparts.
Dont under-estimate your local dealer for some parts, I got a pressure plate, radiator guards and spring caps there cheaper than net and fleabay. Check there when you are shopping around.
P.S welcome.
