FWIW, Marquez thinks Astroturf has a place on some corners:

Marquez was asked whether he felt the inclusion of AstroTurf in the run-off zone at MotoGP circuits was 'stupid'.

“Never is it stupid because we ride really fast and when we you go wide it is so difficult to say 'now we will release the brakes and then we will brake again'. Sometimes you think you can't release the brake and you feel the pressure of the brake is not so high, but on the tarmac it is really high,” Marquez said.

“Always we are speaking with the Safety Commission but I think we need to keep [the AstroTurf] at some corners, but of course when it rained the day before than it can be more dangerous.”
