A bed would be cool as the plane ticket might be a bit pricey. Even a couch for a night or two.

I got a spare room at my place that you're welcome to...

Lemme know when.

Ok, I'm in.

Gotta confirm I can get leave and the exact date. Hoping for ~ 10 days in country. I'm hoping I don't require much babysitting as I can wander around just about any town for the day if people are working. I would love a base of operations. I think I'm going to look to fly into Sydney and go from there.

Big - I am more than willing to take you up on the room and would do whatever I can to compensate you. Know any pretty girls to show me around?

big -

I'm a go. Filling out my leave request now. Can you PM an address and phone # I can put on my request (PM me so it's not here public). Or, any close hotels that aren't too much $$$ (and would still have room over the New Year). Leave dates are ~29 Dec ~9 Jan.

I'm rather shooting from the hip on this and will be taking care of plane tickets in the next couple days.

Okie Dokey. I fly in to Sydney the 29th. Will get more specifics soon (don't have the itinerary in front of me). Anyone recommend place to stay "downtown" or some other such place. I was speaking with Big about it. And, he gave me a tentative. But, looking for some info.

I would have no problem just landing and finding a place. But, it will be through New Year's and I want to make sure I'm good.

You might have a problem finding a place if you just rock up.  Wink

Just look for something in CBD or surrounds.

We're out of town from the 27th Dec till the 4th Jan or so (and I'm not having much headway convincing Rachel that we ought to let "some guy I kinda know from the internet" stay at our place while we're away without ever having met him... Not _too_ surprising I guess.)

So if you need somewhere from the 5th Jan, let me know. Earlier than that will get complicated though.

Keep us in the loop Poke, just incase, as I work in hotels. 5-star pricy stuff, but you never know if things get grim for you. - Chris

You probably wanna get on it pretty quick, accommodation in Sydney City books out over new years...

Look here (that'll take a while to load) - a "normal" weekend will usually show 50 or 60 "available" hotels, over new years it's only showing 11 right now. That doesn't mean the hotels are actually booked out, it just means they figure they'll be able to sell all their rooms themselves, without having to share profits with random websites... If you cant find anything suitable on the travel websites, start looking for the hotels or chains own websites, and use the phone to talk to them direct - there's a pretty good chance they'll still have rooms available even if all the major travel sites (and sometimes even their own websites) are showing them as full.

big (full disclaimer, I used to do a lot of work on that travelmall.com website...)

Right now, I'm deciding between the Westin or Radisson in downtown Sydney.

edit: Staying at the Westin. 29th - 9th. Flying out on the 10th. Should be a nice long vacation. And, I honestly have nothing to do. Just flying down by myself and will explore Sydney and enjoy the nice summer weather. Figure out something for NYE. Prolly play typical tourist and see the usual stuff. Anything else you can think of, please let me know over the next 5 weeks or so.

If not, I'm at least hoping for a night of binge drinking with some DMF OZ folks.

Not if you want them both at the same time!

Lawrence: Damn straight. I always wanted to do that, man. And I think if I were a millionaire I could hook that up, too; 'cause chicks dig dudes with money.

Budget isn't huge. But figuring to spent ~$1,500 - $2,000 spending cash for trip. That includes bar and food $$$ too.

Figured my days would consist of going for a run or swim in the morning, having breakfast, walking around (I'm used to spending a day walking - it's a military thing), taking pictures, visiting the Opera House, famous places, things like that. If I see an adventure that looks interesting, I'd jump on that.

Speaking of jumping on that, I generally have no preference between blondes, brunettes, and redheads. I'm 29. So, +- 5 years or so. I'll even go -8 if it becomes interesting.  And yes, sometimes quantity is better than quality.
