New Sat Nav option - iPhone and QuadLock

I had my iPhone 5 mounted to the handlebars using a LifeProof case.  Now I have an iPhone 6 I have had to upgrade to a new system and found this: http://www.quadlockcase.com/products/bike-mount.  I have yet to test it, on the road, but it looks like it will be much better.


The case is much less bulky than the LifeProof - it slips in a pocket easily and will fit in my dock:


It simply clicks onto the mounting stem, and comes off by pulling down on the blue flange and twisting.  The stem is held on by either O-rings or zip-ties.  I choose the former.  It seems very secure.


Unlike the LifeProof case, it is not inherently waterproof, but comes with a rubber "poncho" that looks well up to the task of keeping rain out (LifeProof claim submersion proofing, though I never tested it).  The poncho is very flexible and easily stores under the seat (along with my USB charge cable).  You can still use the touch screen with the poncho on.

I would be weary of the "poncho". I never likes the Lifeproof cover. They missed the point of having a slim phone . I'm sure they could come up with a lower spec case that did not need to survive a nuclear bomb.

I really like that mount. It make perfect sense. It would be the perfect case if they just improved on the water protection.

I haven't had a ride with it yet (and probably won't get time today either) but it feels pretty secure.  I may end up switching to the cable-ties eventually.  I'm not particularly worried about the waterproofing.  The poncho fits pretty tightly so should give good protection and I'm sure that he bike's fairing would keep most of the rain off anyway.

I agree, the LifeProof case was too protective.  I don't need seals over all the ports.  I had the Nuud version and even then it wouldn't fit in my pocket easily and couldn't go on a stand, due to the Lightening port cover.  For me, this is a much better solution.

I'm just using Apple Maps.  I don't need a Sat Nav for 90% of my riding.  This is just for occasional use.

i turn on GPS and run it trough bluetooth on my sena smh5 along with music (music quiets down a bit when next turn comes up). and my phone is under the seat being charged or in my pocket.
but i do want one of these for my road bike (bicycle). how is the quality of their stuff?

Quality seems fine - The case is really nice (if a bit boring, in black) and the rest is pretty simple stuff.  I took it for a test run today and nothing seemed to vibrate or move.  The position was great, it did not block the instruments and was easy to see. 

Personally I tend to use a visual map, rather than a verbal one.  I also don't have a Senna (or equivalent) so $80 for this was cheap, compared to buying one of those.  If I used it more than once in a blue moon, I might consider buying a Senna (their latest one looks pretty good) but can't justify it at the moment.

senna is $90 shipped. stupid cheap man. i actually bought a dual pack so i can talk to the lady but when flying solo its nice to listen to tunes, answer texts and make calls if you need. sure you don't need to do any of that, but its nice to know that you can. i black music on it all the time

If I ever rode with others I would buy one, but 95% of my riding is to work and back.  It is a 15 minute commute so I can easily survive without music.  I'm also a bit wary of the distraction of music when riding - I've never tried it but am fearful it would make me less aware of my surroundings.  Just my personal opinion, not a criticism of yours.

gotya. once you get in a groove its awesome tho your choice of music makes a big difference on your speed haha

I've done about the same, using my iPhone mostly instead of the gps.

Add one of these for quick charging if you use a battery tender.

 Wow, I haven't been on this forum for a long time, I responded to your other thread showing the same SAE adapter solution. Haha....ugh...

 I like your cable better. It is a sealed unit. I use an extra iPhone cord and electrical tape the connection to keep moisture out.
