S2R 1000 Oil leak from vertical cylinder head bolt

Hey Fellas

I have slight oil leak from vertical cylinder head bolt. It's doesn't leak while sitting and idling but leaks as you ride and rpm rises. What is the fix for this? Do I need to lift the head and replace or reseal the thread? What is the solution here? I am attaching pics

It seems more likely you have a leak from that aftermarket cam cover... or possibly the hose from the crankcase breather has split and is spewing a bit of funk.

Early DS and some 1100 have little tiny o-rings in a groove on the end of each rocker shaft.
Also a large o-ring on the big snout (of that swanky NCR cover) that sticks in the cam hole.

Later 1100 have a big rubber seal ring, roughly circular but with four ears on it.

Whichever flavor you have, replace.

Yes, the stock cam cover leaked and I replaced it with aftermarket cam cover, The new cam cover came with new o-ring so the cover does not leak anymore, and I checked the hose and they are fine. It's leaking from the head stud/nut. I cleaned it up took it for a ride and leaking from there. what now?

Wait, let me hold my tongue, I just checked the front cover and it's wet. I will change the o-rings on both cover with OEM part and see what happens.

you can use an early gasket, just put 2 holes in it for the screws and fit that.  generally fixes them.  or goop the shit out of it.

Yup, That's what I was thinking. I just replaced the o-ring with factory ones I had in the parts bin, If this doesn't fix it then I am gonna use either the TA-31 or Hondabond around the edges to seal it. That will fix it. I just hope that it's not leaking from the bolt, if it is I gotta lift the head and change out the head gasket, I was told it happens. I will keep you guys posted.

Here is the o-ring that came with NCR cam covers, It looks different and looks little thinner then the OEM part.

That NCR O-ring is likely a standard size that you can get anywhere. 

The OEM is likely a custom size that Ducati gets made special.

You guys are right, I cleaned it up and change the o-ring+sealant. took it for a ride today. No more leak. Thanks fellas! you guys rock!

Dame it! it's still weeping a little. Do I need to silicone the whole plate of just around the o-ring? I might have to take the covers off again and re-seal it. I put brand new o-ring in by the way...

they leak around the rocker shafts.  i've had them not respond to the rocker shaft o-ring replacement as well, so i went the gasket as i dislike gooping indescrimenantly.  although i was concerned about the extra end float, but given there's full oil pressure on the end of the cam there's plenty of side loading toward the belt side.

Duh~ No. I guess I will have to crack it open again... Urgh!. How many do I need to buy? 4 or 8? for the both heads?

You would need 8 to do both heads.

I'd go with Brad's gasket fix, less of a PITA to install.
