Hello! Been riding for 3 years now and have accumulated 40k miles on two different bikes. Both my dad and brother ride Kawasaki W650's and my ex wife told me that i could never ride a bike. Once she was out of the picture the first thing i did was get my moto license and buy a bike.
I started riding on the "poor mans duc" aka a naked sv650. In my first year on that i put on 13k miles. Swapped suspension over for GSXR forks and rear shock. Bike was really awesome but i wanted something a little different.  Bought my current bike in April of 2013, a 2012 DL650A vstrom. I have been commuting on it rain or shine for the last two years and have racked up 26k on that. I sold the SV last year and really, REALLY regretted it. I figure i'm just too young to be on a Vstrom now that i have been riding it and it's currently up for sale. There is a beautiful satin black 09 Monster 696 about 20 minutes for me in my "budget". I'm taking the bait and jumping ship. I don't need any more power than the 696 has to offer being only 155lbs. I know i'm going to miss the Vstrom but i think everyone who rides should own a Ducati just once. I'm hoping to double the mileage on the bike in the first year of ownership. (Only has 10k on it now). I do all my own wrenching so maintenance costs shouldn't be to bad. I REALLY absolutely love the Imola 72 fairing set. That will be purchased eventually. Wink

Suppose you can't be TOO far from Duc Pond in Winchester? Where in NW VA? Consider a 796 if budget allows. The extra torque is useful. You might not need an 1100 EVO, but the 796 will give you the same chassis, single-sided swing arm, wheels and tires, and probably ABS (which works). Just my $0.02.

Welcome!

I have thought. Really really hard. Went to Duc Pond the other day. If i had the cash to put down what i need to in order to make the payments where i need them i would but i just cant sadly. Im ok with the 696 though. Plenty of bike for me and if im going to be riding as much as i do, depreciation would be enormous. That being said, i dont plan on selling.

Im in strasburg. I commute to manassas daily. 110 miles round trip. Thanks for the welcome!
