cowl mounted rear bag
«

so i need a bit of storage for regular use like taking m lunch to work and whatnot. i have a tank bag but it annoys me and has to be removed to gas up, which is a pain because it has straps. I am also afraid sooner or later it will trap some foreign matter and scratch the tank.
so recently i purchased a slightly damaged rear seat cowl (thanks ducsoup!) i am in the process of cleaning it up and painting it, most likely flat black, and then i will permanently mount a bag to it. haven't decided what bag yet, maybe just cut the straps off of my tank bag. i don't plan to ever put more than 5 lbs in it so im not too worried about the cowl mounting screws / nuts
is this a good idea or a great idea? i don't know
i'll post pics as soon as it is done.

I support the idea - a good one.
Can I add my input about here .. . .
.
. . I would get very bored screwing/unscrewing if I had to do that twice or more
. . every day. How about a removable liner to bring with you? Or fix some metal under
. . the cowl to allow for a magnetic bag? Your results will be interesting. Good luck!

. .
BTW my daily tank"bag is this:

im not worried about removing/installing it often, i plan on just leaving it on for the most part. i may take i off when i want to look cool for some reason, but during the week it will stay put.

Hummmm...5 lbs that will do a 6 pack.
I also us a tank bag on the tail when I need to otherwise the laptop for work is in the back pack....
I love my bungie web. Throw something on the back and web it down, plus it stows under the seat when not needed.

Be careful of the hardware under the cowl, its pretty tight on the seat and any extra weight could spell disaster for the seat if you don't coat the bolt head with some felt/rubber/something....

so i finished this bag a few weeks ago and finally got around to taking a picture.
i painted the cowl flat black, meh, it would have been nice to match the rest but the rattle can was sitting on the shelf calling to me. to address concerns about hardware damaging the seat i decided to hold the bag on with zip ties looped through the bottom of the bag and through holes drilled in the cowl. so there are no screw heads pushing into the seat and it is more than secure enough.
any way, it is the perfect size to through my lunch in for when i commute or i can take some supplies with me on longer ides without stuffing my pockets.

it's a cortech tank bag. i forget the exact model, but it is the perfect length and width to fit right on the raised section of the cowl.

To bad you can't combine it with a DP gel seat.
