Beating a dead horse – S2R800 Brakes.

I've decided it's time to actually upgrade my brakes...
I was researching ISR calipers, and they 6-pot/65mm mount caliper is spec'd for "300mm - 320mm" rotors... This got me thinking.

Do I 100% need to upgrade my rotors with new calipers? Would gold-line or 749/99 calipers bolt right on with my smaller 300mm rotors?
I actually prefer the look of the smaller rotor, thus my curiosity.

Anyone have any insight/experience on this?

sadly you do need to get the 320mm rotors . .. unless you fab adapters to "drop" the calipers down to the rotors . . .

I upgraded the brakes on old my S2R800 with brembo goldlines with braketech axxis rotors. Please note that if you want the true feel of higher performance brakes, you'll need to upgrade the master cylinder as well to an S4R style with a remote reservoir. Otherwise you'll get better performance but not that same feel of crazy stopping power like on the high end superbikes you are trying to emulate.

Stock S2R800 brakes suck for aggressive riding. They suffer from severe brake fade when pushing hard, but they are adequate for city riding. I remember almost crapping in my pants the first time they overheated going thru some downhill twisties.

without being totally clear about your goals or application, I would suggest getting the axial mount 65mm 4 piston 2 pad brembos. they were on a bunch of bikes and can be found pretty cheap, throw on a set of radial master cylinders from any superbike/streetfighter/ high spec modern monster or hyper and you have a substantial upgrade from stock.

I have an S2r 800 running the above set up and I feel its perfect for my track days.  brake pads and levers are readily accessible and im not adding any unnecessary weight by going with overkill  calipers.

Our bikes make like 80hp and weigh under 400lbs, we dont need massive brake power.

i've got some new s2r1000 front discs that i'll swap for good s2r800 front discs and calipers.  postage might be an issue though.
