I receive a text message "a mutual friend gave us your number, we believe you collect Ducati's? We have an M4 that we want gone ASAP. Can send photos"

I reply "Ooo.... Yes please, photos would be great. How much do you want for it? Can you tell me anything else about it?"

They reply "It's a 2002 600 we think!"

Photo arrives:

Along with a photo of the VIN plate.

I do a VIN check, it's all good and the engine number would suggest it a 900 "ZDM904A2K0*****"

So I hire a trailer and drive the hour South of where I live.  When I pull up this wreck of a bike is sat there. Along side it several large pastic storage containers of parts.  My eyes are as wide as a baby in a titty bar  drool

I ask "How much do you want for the lot?"

They reply "we just want it gone, our son brought it two years ago pulled it apart, painted it (terribly) and continue to buy various other parts. 12 months ago he left for Melbourne and now we want it all gone"

I couldn't help myself, I made a donation loaded up and now just hoping the better half doesn't look in the garage until I have time to hide it!

My only dilemma - do I fix it up or part it out!

If it's a 900 fix it. A dry clutch 2v, cant imagine it getting much better.Dolph  I've always wanted a 900 to add to the stable with my S4R.

Yes, by the looks of it, it is a 900. The previous owner sure did a number on that paint job. Don't dismantle and kill her, save her. Someday these bikes are gonna be sought after.

applause applause applause You're in trouble mate!

Is that a Gixxer front end? (Been in a smash or upgrade)? If it's Showa it's most likely Gixxer, KYB then Yammy, maybe R6.

I reckon make it your track bike, saves a rego Wink. Hot up the motor, lots of potential, and its got a good front end. Don't need lights or fancy paint.
Hi Comp pistons, porting, PCIII, Intake mods, basic mini fairing, slicks. Motor builder people across your way (PM Monsta).
What's the red anodized thing near the TBs? Looks like an intake kit is already on it. Are they velocity stacks? Does it have pods over them or been run open?

Gixxer brakes are everywhere.

Most of that paint looks like it will wash off with gasoline. waytogo

Yeah, I reckon the high pressure cleaner should do it. The kid hasn't heard of masking tape.

I've got all parts required including a new set of hi-comp pistons. Also, two large containers of parts came with the bike including extra forks, brakes, a wheel etc etc. I shall update with more photos later when I get back from Karratha in a few hours! (why does work always get in the way!)

I've established electrical power the tachometer is reading 55,000 Kilometres (approx 34,000 miles) it cranks over nice and strong but PSI is down at 90 in both cylinders!

Some of the parts that came with it. I think many are Yamaha parts!
Can anyone identify the spare forks?

Forks, I'm not sure of.  BUT, the calipers just scream Yamaha.

Great find.

You're a Monster-whore, but we love you.   because Hey...  If we didn't, we'd be hanging out in another forum somewhere being whores for other things.
