Love the Monster

This is probably old news to you guys out there that have had Monsters for a while, but I will share my thoughts.
Having had a number of Japanese bikes over the years I decided to go European.
Looked at the Triumphs, BMWs and Ducatis.
Got a great deal on a 2012 M796 with 700 miles.
I have had it for a week and all I can say is WOW.
It is not the fastest or the most technically advance but my God what character.
The Italians know how to put soul in to their bikes and cars.
This is the first bike I feel is a living thing.
Is this nuts or are there other people out there that feel this way?
I hope I am not alone

Your description fits exactly what everyone who rides one says about Ducatis and especially Monsters. The feedback and feel from the motor and chassis is addictive. The sound of the motor was described by a sportbike magazine as "intoxicating".
Welcome to this big crazy family.

For reference, I have had: GSXR-600, GS-1150ES, GS650E, CB550, Supersport 900 and an M750. The one that still parks in my garage after all the others are gone? The M750. Monsters are special.

From what I have read on this forum I am now dreaming of a S4RS to live in my garage with the M796.

The S2R is a 2 valve bike and maintenance can be DIY, or will be roughly half of what an S4RS is at a shop. People unfamiliar with 4V maintenance can be put off by the complexity.
The S4RS is an SBK motor and has about 50 or so more hp with roughly the same torque. The S2R has roughly 80ish RWHP.
How much do you need?

80 BHP will be enough, my M796 is about that much and I am happy with it, I love the look of the S2R and I am getting a good deal. DIY maintenance will be good for me , I used to do it on my old bikes 20 years ago and want to start doing it again.

Your 796 does not have the torque of the S2R 1K.
Two completely different bikes.
