I've got a 620 with the govenor removed.  All the governor does is stop the throttle from turning fully (but it does it on the carby). The governor simply restricts you from rolling on the throttle past a certain point (about 6.5-7K RPM).  Once the governor is off, you'll be able to roll on the throttle all the way to the rev limiter (if you so choose).

It doesn't change the way the bike behaves (throttle curves, overall power etc) at the rev range you've already been using, it simple allows you to open the throttle up all the way.

Just take it easy for the first couple rides and get used to the extra zing and you should be fine. I don't think you have anything to worry about from a lifting the front wheel off the ground perspective (I've been trying since I got mine and it aint.gonna.happen)

Bigfella,

unless you're a 10 year old boy you ain't gonna get that front wheel in the air with just a power on wheelie.
You'd need to use a certain amount of clutch to get her pointing to the sky.
As for removing the governor what you will find is that you will be able to use all of the power curve.
It will rev quicker because you will have more twist in the wrist, more revs mean a fast spinning engine.
Where as you've been used to it spinning up slowly with only 1/3rd of throttle opening the butterflies in the fuel injection.
Now you will be free to use the full range of power which comes on mostly from 2nd gear.
I am sure after only a few rides you will see an amazing difference and really get to enjoy all over again your 620.

Any other Q's just pop back in and asked only to happy to give you my take on 620 ownership (18mths on)

cheers

matty
would love to know of your thoughts on the 620 i do love it very easy to handle
i brought it for my first day of ridding big yellow L plate on her
and it was purchased with the intention of keeping it and growing with it even some mods
but with it being knocked over and the fact it still had the restrictor on i thought the resale might be worth selling and upgrading it

Depends on how long you've had it and what riding you are planning on doing.
I find it very comfortable to be on. I have riden the S2R recently and although is was a huge boost in power.
I found it to be a much more committed riding position, having higher knees and a further lean to to reach the bars.
So it depends what you want to do with your bike, I find the 620 a good mix between power and riding position.
You can jump on it to go get the paper cruise through city traffic or have a good go through the curves on the weekend.

I have thought about trading up to a bigger bike but for me the 620 is enough bike for the road but then I am also only dragging
60kg's of human on top of it.
So as I say where is your use, road for light riding and a gentle lean or a good hard (to your skill level) blast?

I am still happy with my 620 for road use and I'm looking for a track bike next year if that is where I end up.

cheers

thanks for that
mine is for city ridding mainly
occasional long rides to the gong or newcastle berry and bowral
dragging a good 100 odd kg but its now really power i want
i want something that keeps me grinning   Grin   weather its from a deep growl(with the new termis), fast out of the lights or just hitting that left swooping left hander at the end of bondi road at the perfect speed and my knee getting lower every morning
and i dont want to be on my arse after 1 wheel decides it wants to go up

Matty - 60kg bloody hell, do you eat?  Wink Apparently not enough  bacon popcorn

Power to weight was my way of convincing the Boss I needed to the 800 compared to her 620  Grin. But since she still has me on both power/weight and ability it is largely a moot point. It is not so much the power but what you do with it.

Not that the 800 has much more power than the 620

If it's mostly that sort of riding then I suggest you do what many of us here have done recently and take a course.
It will teach you how to use your bike best and really open your eyes as to just what you can get out of a 620.

Betty trust me I eat, it just seems that I use everything not much storage on my bones.

Bigfella you should come out with us sometime, have a chat and get to know different peoples opinions.
Everyone's bikes are used for different things and it seems you are an allrounder.
If it is more HP you are looking for then may I suggest you go back a few years to the old skool 900-1000
They still have the same cockpit as you have been used too but add some more ponies for a bigger  Grin but then you are looking at
heading skyward with that front wheel.

Bigfella, I can not endorse the use of worms to make you or your 620 lighter or faster. Apologies for the jacking ....

sounds to me that everything is looking good for you...

Termi's - nice growling sound - maybe a bit more power/torque (but I reckon it's hard to tell!)
removal of restriction - bit of extra top end - but without enough early power to put you on your ass.

it's going to be like a new improved bike...

+1 for monstermick

don't sell it...mature with it!
