They are probably feeling the heat from the 1290 superduke and feel they need to respond accordingly to the challenge.

and BMW S1000RR naked derivate . . .

I found the 1200S to be pretty boring when I test rode it, hopefully the R brings the fun back. Scrambler was a more engaging motorcycle IMO. Are you just enjoying the bike more?

My comment about the 1200 growing on me was about its aesthetics.  I don't own one...

I dont get all the negativity for the new Monster. I test rode the 1200S and was pretty impressed. The powerband was pretty smooth and had some serious torque, the handling was good, the brakes were excellent and the seat was probably the best Monster stock seat I've ever sat on. I also like the looks of it specifically the tank, the headlight and how they cleaned up the tail. My only gripe... it's not an aircooled bike. There's something about the aircooled Ducati's that I love the sound and no ugly radiator and liquid cooling bits hanging up front. I get why they had to go aircooled at this point and I'm slowly growing accustomed to it. (I think).  I also havent heard a 1200S with Termis on it. That could sound amazing I dont know. Let's see how this R pans out. I am curious. The 821 did not impress me nearly as much.

give it the 1200 DVT engine, improve the breathing / exhaust to give it a few extra ponies, engine modes (wuss/not sure/yee-haw), sort out the footpegs, tidy up the LH side aesthetics, drop some lard (10-15kg), lower the gearing, and don't charge a bl**dy fortune for it....

I'd buy one Smiley

Yup, it's supposed to sound like that....

Power delivery sounds great for the M1200R but I guess I was expecting a distinct styling queues to differenciate the M1200R from the other Monsters. Maybe it just comes down to livery or they're following Porsche's way of distinguishing the models "if you know Porsche, you know the difference." I'll still keep my S4R somehow nothing other than the old M900 or the M1100S gets me to even think about selling or adding another model to the stable.

Agreed.  The passenger pegs/exhaust hanger on the first generation Monster 1200/1200S are just awful.

I wouldn't buy the 1200/1200S but this looks decent and has some nice features.  Count me in as interested.  Might make a nice stablemate to my Multistrada 1200 S.  Cheesy

"Ducati bosses were also at great pains to explain this was going to be the pinnacle of performance for the Monster range and any rumours of a naked Panigale had no foundation in truth and no such bike is being planned. Various Ducati department heads officially confirmed no such bike is being worked on currently."

What?!  There were rumors of a naked Panigale??  Evil

Ducati is making a motard?

I was actually looking at bikes other than Ducati since I was simply not enthused at the Monster/SF line-up. This might have just changed.

THEY ARE?!  Shocked  laughingdp

I'm curious to see if they do any better with the EURO4 tuning for the motor than they've done with the 2015 MTS (it's really bad).
