Do they Zoom or do the Swoosh.... if they are electric.... is there any engine zooming sound?

They are actually completely silent.  I saw them doing a test ride at a local biker hangout (Alice's) and when I saw that car pull away, pretty fast, it made NO noise at all!

Seems pretty cool, but kind of dangerous in that setting with all of the cyclists around.

I heard that you get 250 miles per charge or something like that.

Wow that's much higher than they orig stated, very cool. If a car has that much rang it would be more than a local toy for me ;D

from their website:

QuoteHow far can the Tesla Roadster drive between charges?
Actual range depends on driving style and conditions. During testing of prototypes cars, Tesla Motors has seen between 170 miles per charge for very spirited driving to 267 miles per charge for city driving that makes use of the Roadster's regenerative braking. Our most recent EPA driving cycle tests, conducted February 2008, at an EPA-certified facility, resulted in the following numbers:

231 mi EPA city
224 mi EPA highway
227 mi EPA combined (city/highway)
Keep in mind that Tesla Motors is in the midst of final development and testing for the Tesla Roadster. While we are confident in our most recent numbers, the final results will be dependent on the car's specifications at series production. We will update our EPA range numbers once we have fully tested a production Roadster, expected in early 2008.

How long does it take to recharge?
That depends on how far the battery has been discharged and what source is being used to charge the batteries. A full charge using the Home Charging Station (included in the price of the Tesla Roadster) can be achieved in as little as 3.5 hours.

However, an electric car is a bit like a cell phone: it does not matter how long it takes to charge as long as a charge lasts all day. You plug it in when you get home, and unplug it when you leave in the morning.

Yea just make sure you travel no further than 125 miles away so you can make it back or spend 3.5 hours somewhere charging it so you can get home.

What kind of batteries do these use?  How toxic and often is disposal?  Seems like a cute concept but not quite at that practical use level.

Don't bring up batteries and the coal plants used to charge the car, it makes the "green dream" look foolish. >:(

Just looked it up and they do get ok milage, only 1/2-1/3rd the average car.  THE FACT   But the first car only went 20 miles or so on each tank.

220 miles might only be half of the distance a gas/diesel car might get, but I'd buy one in a heart beat if I had 100k to spend on a car. My daily drive is 60 miles, so thats 3 days that I could go between charges if I wanted (I'm sure I'd charge it every day though, just incase).

The fact of the matter is, though, that a different kind of car is going to have to have a different style of driving. I don't think plugging that beast in at night is going to hurt anyone though

Would anyone else want to harness that battery power to turn the front bumper into a massive taser or is it just me?
