To help with the fugly part you might consider a used Gran Canyon.  Best looking dual sport ever and a 900 duc engine.

Oh man, you will love the Multistrada. I have a 2005 1k, and you are correct it is much better for two up, and it handles really good. The first thing you will notice is the comfort of seating right up, once you start riding it you will notice how high up you are compared to the Monster, and than you will notice that all the weight is right under you, making it handle superbly. Like I said you will not regret it. On the road with two up, your passenger can slide into your seat easy, making it a little uncomfortable, but it is all about getting used to it. In a short time, your passenger, will learn to stay on her seat..!!
Do a test drive, and have your $$ ready..   ;:|

Wow, Nick should have patented his Multi creation.  First the Hyper knockoff and now the Motowheels version.

I spent quite a bit of time on the Multi and I loved it.  You don't notice the ugliness once you are on it and when it is parked in the garage you just need to look at it from the rear.  I almost bought one but I ended up with an ST4.  It was a bit more sporty and easier on the eyes.

Multis are great bikes.  wt: They handle as well as a Monster, handle much better at slow speeds, can carry things, and are more comfortable.  They're not as good looking admittedly.  Even so, I really don't miss my M900.

It will take a few miles to get used to the seating position after being used to a Monster.  I've never had any issues with scraping things that I didn't have with my Monster.  I'd say the most likely thing to scrape would be the centerstand if you get a bike with one.  I removed mine when I got a full exhaust. 

The '04 models seem to have an issue with backfiring if slip-ons are installed...mine was no different.  The addition of a Powercard from LTSnyder solved the problem (his '04 also backfired).  Fuel gauges in all the models but the 1100 are useless.  Light comes on at 1/2 tank.  Really lame...but just use the trip meter.  No real problems other than those that I can think of.

I really like the Motowheels kit.  I emailed them for a price about 3 weeks ago but never got a reply.

Hey Manny...the multi is the cats nuts for commuting!   wt:  very very comfortable and pretty fun to ride.  You can throw workout clothes, laptop, etc in the bags and not have to deal with a back pack, etc.  I can't say enough good stuff about the bike.  I never got around to cleaning the look up, but I love what Nick did to his.

right now it's just a pipe dream. hopefully i'll have a new job soon, and then when my arm heals, i'll be more serious about it.

JJGeo has one and loves it.  I've ridden one.  Very comfy.

 I had a Monster, then a ST3 and now an 07 Multi. The Multi is the best all-around bike. My wife loves it. Wer're both in our 40's and we can ride 300-400 miles a day with no problem. Oh yeah, easy power wheelies with the 1100!
