FWIW, I am recently returned from a 1500 mile trip over a big range of secondary and tertiary roads fast and slow on my S4Rs and never had so much as a twitch from the front end. No steering damper.

But yes, I spent a long time setting up the suspension.

Check my sig line for details of the shock work if interested.

The only time I ever had a headshake issue on that bike was when a shop swapped a heavier fork oil for the stock Ohlins stuff. Then it wanted to shake on mid-turn bumps.

On Ohlins damper fluid (they won't tell you the viscosity because they set up the valving for theirs and want you to use it), that stock fork is amazing. I am running a spring one step up in stiffness in one leg, stock in the other. (Stock is an 85, other a 90.)

Issue is basically resolved... I ordered a new steering damper by Matris. I hadn't realized how sh!t the DP gear was. Also, new tires and raised rear-end ride height greatly improved the traction and suspension feel.

So how is the DP gear $hit ?

... hard to figure out when you needed new tires and suspension tweaks.

2007 S4RS Black Termis

« Reply #17 on: April 27, 2016, 08:29:48 AM »

Welcome to the S4RS - I have had mine since new 2007, and yes the front end gets light under acceleration in the first three gears. I do not have a steering damper on mine and have never felt the need for one.
One thing I would suggest is a stabilizer for the small faring, it was the first mod I made to mine

As far as DP gear I have the DP ECU and Full Termi and am happy with the quality, I am, however, on my third fuel tank. Fortunately the two replacements were covered, figuring I wouldn't get a fourth I had the most recent one coated before I put it on
