My slave cylinder started leaking and my clutch gave out. I went to a cycle shop and bought a slave cylinder off an early 2000s monster. My bike is a 1995 monster 900m. I put the slave on and bled. The clutch wont engage. I did research and read that pre 2000 bikes have actuator rod that doesnt stick out as far and that adding a 8mm ball bearing will cure this problem? Is this true? I dont want to mess up slave if I have to return it.

There were some aftermarket slaves that required the use of a ball bearing on some bikes, but 8mm sounds too big. I don't think it will fit inn the slave piston. I've also seen the ball wear into the piston.

You could get the longer pushrod.

The typical spacers are 8mm diameter, 10mm long.

Some are cupped on one end to fit the round ended pushrods.
