For some reason I have been looking at the ZB9 Lightning lately, early 2000 model. Just wondering if anyone has one so I can get some feedback. I know nothing about them but I'm thinking it might be like a unrefined Monster. Just wondering if it's enough of a difference in riding to get one? Or if I'm wanting a second bike I should look in a different direction.

I will not be replacing the Monster. At 54 years old the Monster is staying till I am no longer able to ride.

I liked the mid nineties Buells. They were quite Monster like. The 96 Lightning was great.

I've always liked Buells (several threads here on them), but I think if I set it up the way I'd like to it would be too similar to my Monster. I'd get something completely different, say like a KTM 690 SMC.  Evil

+1. It was either or for me, and based on Sportriders comparo, I chose the Monster. That was the Feb issue of 1996. Changed my life.
What about a Buell sports tourer with bags? Someone here has a Buell that is their two up touring bike.

Kind of what I was afraid of. I almost snagged a 2002 XB9 Lightning  for $2,000. If I find something like that again might get it ride for a wile and sell.

My next choice would be wait till I find a RD400 or something similar.

I always wanted an XB12Ss, should probably look for one before they're completely used up.....
