if you're gonna follow this close, you're gonna have a bad time

i've rarely seen a bike go after someone so hard after getting crashed.  No wonder the guy had a concussed look.  I think the bike tried to curb stomp him.

Well, yes, but only in winter.

Probably the reason he crashed, it's machete season now.

Where did the "alleged thief" part come from?

Is there an article somewhere that you didn't link to?

My guess the YouTube comments. The bike had no key in it and he was carrying a pickax in his pants.

A bit of a hasty accusation, perhaps, but it's well within the realm of possibility.

Could the key have launched or broken off?

Yes the ice axe is definitely sketchy and his bell was rung.  I would still think he would want to GTFO immediately if sirens were on the horizon had he stolen it.

Broken... perhaps. But it's in a pretty protected area. Launched - no. The keyways on bikes are key retaining when they are in a position where the bike can run.

Not to be smart - but I'd guess you've not dealt with anyone who's immediately, just suffered a significant head trauma. His noodle can barely tell him what he's doing at that moment

yeah maybe you guys are right.

maybe he lost the key or something.  maybe it came out on it's own.  maybe he had it relocated.  maybe the key broke off in the ignition so he has a remote kill/start switch.

maybe he's a amateur geologist and he's riding up to big bear with a rock hammer to get some samples.  Maybe he stopped at a buddy's house to pick up the rock hammer he loaned out.  Maybe he went to a swap meet and got a sweet deal on the rock hammer that he couldn't pass up so he had to buy it.

if only someone would invent some kind of container or bag you could strap to your body to carry rock hammers while motorcycling.  I mean, in lieu of such a magical invention, it makes complete sense to stick the rock hammer down your pants.

my bad.
