2002 Monster 750 not charging - rectifier?

I went for a ride the other night, and near the end of the ride the bike started missing. I stopped at a gas station (needed gas), and she died as I got up to the pump. When I went to start her, the battery was dead. I got her home, out her on her trickle charger, and after awhile she started up and runs fine. I checked the voltage with an old analog meter I have, and it reads 12 volts regardless of rpms.
I've read a bunch of threads here. I checked the main fuse (OK), and there isn't any burnt or corroded wiring. From what I've read, the rectifiers on these bikes tend to be a lot more problematic than the stators. My Ducati manual doesn't describe how to check the rectifier. I'm going to try to use the flow-chart that's been posted later today to see if I can figure this out. I tried the diagnosis stuff with the yellow stator wires per my manual, and that seems OK. The rectifier check in the flow chart seems a bit more complicated.
Or, given all I've read about the OEM rectifiers, should I just order one from Rick's or one of the other places. I'm short on time, am not sure my meter is up to the task, and the consensus seems to be that the bike would be better of with an after-market rectifier anyway. I was going to bring her to a shop, but the cost of a new rectifier will get eaten up by any shop's labor rate pretty quick.
So, just bail on the whole thing an order a new rectifier? Plug and play from Rick's? Any other source that has better stuff? Any other ideas?
Thanks

I'd test the stator output. Your analog meter is fine for that task.
This procedure may help you.

I have a Rick's regulator on my 96. Been there for 16 years and works great.

Thanks. I did the stator tests, and it came out fine. I guess its time to order a R/R.

Are you going to spring the extra for the Mosfet regulator?

I plan on keeping the bike pretty much forever, so I'd like to get whatever is best. I really want something that I can plug/bolt right in. Any suggestions? There is one at Rick's for $149--its the most expensive of the Ducati RRs on the site so its gotta' be the best, right? What about RMStator? They have a Mosfet also.
I'm open to any suggestions/directions. Thanks

If your RR is mounted out front on the frame below the triple clamp the standard RR will probably work fine for a long time. If yours is mounted under the seat then the Mosfet technology will increase it's lifespan. I have a standard on my bike and it works fine, and has for a long time, as I said. I upgraded connectors when I replaced mine. It looks like the connectors that come with the Rick's will plug right in on your bike. You definitely want to make sure the connector on the bike is in good condition. It was a source of resistance issues on those bikes and caused some grief.
Nothing is forever, so it's up to you whether the extra $30 is worth it. The guarantee is one year regardless of how much you spend.
