Long-Distance Motorcyclists Get Ready for Motomarathon

WINTER PARK, CO – July 14, 2016 – The Motomarathon Association’s long-distance, motorcycle sport-touring format comes to the central Rocky Mountains September 9-12. The 2016 Colorado Motomarathon™ will loop all four days out of Winter Park Resort.

“This endurance motorcycle tour is scheduled over the best long weekend of the year, taking advantage of the waning tourist season right after Labor Day,” said John Metzger, Motomarathon founder. “The kids are back in school, the RVs are back in the barn, the roads are clear of gravel, and the days are still warm, dry and light.”

The start/stop location is about an hour west of Denver. “Winter Park is becoming a center for sport- and adventure-touring with nearby Berthoud Pass, Rocky Mountain National Park, and unique proximity to long-distance loops into Colorado’s hinterlands,” said Metzger.

For a $50 fee, participants receive precisely engineered routes for four days, averaging 300-400 miles per day. Motomarathon routes are kept secret until the night before each day’s ride. Participants complete a series of self-recorded checkpoints, photographing their badge numbers at designated landmarks.
