Ceramic Coating?

Anyone have first-hand experience with ceramic coated exhaust pipes? Does the coating make a real noticeable difference or is it just wishful thinking?

You'd have to dyno the bike with the intent of remapping the ECU to take advantage of the "exhaust port scouring" property that ceramic coating provides, otherwise you'll just get more lean popping on deceleration. You might also notice less radiant heat from the header in heavy traffic, but without remapping, that's about it.

My intent with ceramic coating would be to reduce the radiant heat from the exhaust system… especially the rear cylinder that has the header right under the seat. I'm not concerned about potential performance gains, although, MORE POWER is always better
I'm beginning to realize the R-spec 999 must have a useable riding "season" of about four days in mid-February when it's about 28 degrees or so. Oh well. I like February…

How about wrapping the exhaust?

I'm told it helps and I also don't think you need more power.

Does that help reduce the heat on the rider? Silly question I know but having read just enough technical stuff to be dangerous, as I understand it, engines perform better *to a point* if they retain some heat in the exhaust system. Turbochargers get heat blankets, etc. Unclear if it reduces the ambient heat in the engine compartment/inside bike fairings.
Thanks for the replies.

I would think so since the heat is coming from the inside of the pipes...but I am no expert!

Going with the heat wrap of the rear cylinder header and S-pipe for now.
Took the bike out this morning at 8 am when it was about 78 degrees. No worries. Headed home when it hit 85 at 10:00. Just starting to get too hot to ride… Come on February

I rode my 796 a little in the last 2 weeks (95-100F) and setting at lights was hell (almost quite literally, given the heat.) I've considered ceramic coating as well, but also wondered about how effective thermal wrap would be...
Anyone know someone in the DFW area that does ceramic? I'd like to at least get an idea of what it costs...

I have used Quality Powder Coating on Forms Dr. In Carrollton, but any powder coating place should do ceramic coating. Cost was $250 with a week turnaround time, but it's been a minute since that job was done.
BTW, I got aluminized silver for looks, but flat black is supposed to have better heat-holding properties.

OK, so never mind on the heat wrap. My garage is 110 degrees… Can't "work" in that!

I've done a couple sets of customer's pipes in the satin black.
Looks good, and the vendor said it's real-world friendly, as opposed to the flat or gloss.

Thanks. I originally thought silver would work OK, but I'll go with Satin Black then.

Where are you having it done? This is something I have always been curious about but never seriously enough to look into it.
