Hey Guys, just looking for some feedback.  I ride a lot at night, returning home from work. The headlight on a 2009 m1100 is just abysmal. Ive tried sylvanias, and there a little better.. not much.

Has anyone tried installing a rigid industries sr-q2 right under the triple clamp?  The height is only 1 13/16".
My mechanic said he wouldn't do it as the the fork will compress and the fender will hit the light unit.

Therefore, I guess the question becomes, "does anybody know how much space is left between fender and bottom triple when the forks are completely compressed"?

I find it hard to believe that there isn't atleast 2 inches?? does the fork compress that much.. really?
any thoughts or feedback on the suspension travel.. or remaining space is greatly appreciated..
I reeeeeeaaaaaalllllyy want to install this :)

Were I looking to do something like that, I'd measure the distance between the fender and the bottom triple, then measure the distance from the bottom of the top fork tube and the "foot." Subtract one from the other to figure out how much clearance you have.

If the foot hits the seal, you will have bigger issues than a crushed fender/light, anyway.

Man, that's a ton of money for a light.

I'm currently using an LED H4 bulb from ADVMonster.
It's a nice unit.

Here's a light bar from them:

And do measure as DirtyDuc said.

To OP,
I assume you want these lights for illuminating the road at night on the way back, not for the bling.
Then, under the lower triple is not a good place to install auxiliary light(s).

If you ride at night a lot on the backroad, (ideally) you want spot beam on the left, slightly wider beam (not necessarily flood, just a bit wider) on the right. And mount them as far apart as possible.
While you may not like the look of it, this kind of set up is way better (than the one you have described.)

I also suggest to do more research, as there are better suited for your purpose and less expensive options out there.

excellent, will make these measurements.  Are you saying that the bottom of the fork tube can, potentially go down as far as the "foot". ( I'm assuming you mean the part where the front axle slides into)?

I know theyre a bit pricey. I just bought one unit. I believe it was around 170.00. There maybe other units out there, but nothing cheaper puts out light like this unit.. with no artifacts. check them out. I plugged it in today off of my car battery.. the light is absolutely white with not circular specks or reflector lines with a clear cutoff like hid.  INSANE!  Ill find another use for it (jeep) if I can get it on the duc.

no, this is not a plug. I paid for mine. Just posting this to show, that the light these units throw is clean. Never seen anything like it, besides hid.

That is the external limit of travel... if it goes that far, you probably have bigger issues than the light hitting the fender. I believe the internal components and fluid will limit travel before the external limit, but that is much harder to measure while assembled.
