Got some more done yesterday.
Got the rest of the wiring harness in. Connected everything, plugged in battery and all lights came on without the key. Oops. Time to find the ground.
I still have the exhaust to finish and weld up. Tighten up my suspension. Then send it to my mechanic (Gerry at Moto Milano in Windham ME) where he will do the valves and timing. Then I'll be all done!!
It was the first beautiful day, so I had to pull him outside to work on.
New clutch cover. I do love carbon fiber...
Still not done, but I wanted a sneak peek at what he would look like once his tank and seat is back on.

Thanks guys.
Fingers crossed I can get the rest of the exhaust done this weekend, then I'll get to send it off to Gerry and hopefully have it back by next month

Alright. Now I'm stuck.
I've plugged everything in. I've double checked all wires. Checked the grounds. Checked the fuses.
Every time I connect the battery, my dash lights up, without the key in it. Any ideas what could be causing it? I'm stumped.
(Wiring/electrical was always my weakness)...

Does the headlight come on? Directionals work? Motor crank?

No, but the dash board lights up. If I put the key in, it makes no difference.

Are you saying when you put the key in and turn it on the motor won't crank, the h/l doesn't come on...etc, but the dash stays lit?

Nothing happens when I put the key in. Stays lit up but nothing else happens.
I have everything connected. I'm wondering if the ground isn't connected correctly because of the new paint and I didn't grind off enough contact.

Good possibility. There is a ground under the battery box, some bikes have a ground at the R/R, and there is also a short ground strap from the engine cases to the frame behind the r/h rearset. Get some appropriately sized toothed washers. They'll help.

The motor mounts on the frame have to be bear metal in order to provide good ground to the motor. All the electronics hare grounded to the frame/motor. Improper ground to the motor will lead to electrical issues...
I'ts common to see people paint their frame but not clean up the paint off the motor monts... hope it helps
