Throttle Body Sync Walkthru?
«
on:
July 21, 2008, 11:48:29 AM »
Hey guys I've spent the better part of this morning looking for some guidance on sync'ing my throttle bodies. Has anyone seen a good resource on the process besides the links to making homemade manometers? Something with pictures perhaps for those of us who like visuals? I've searched here, the interweb, and even TOB a bit and I've only found good resources for Triumphs so far.
06 S2R1000 by the way...
Thanks.

Someone posted this link on another thread. Personally, I prefer carb sticks, but to each his own.

Does the home mechanic have the ability to synch throttle bodies on an electronically fuel-injected bike? Seems you need a Ducati computer tool for this one. I'd be interested in learning more.

Synch doesn't require a scan tool. If you touch the throttle screw you need the scan tool to set TPS and CO balance requires an exhaust analyzer.

So I looked at the ducatisuite site and forgive the ignorance but, is syncing carbs and FI throttle bodies the same procedure?

So I read through the Ducatisuite write-up and he says the process is the same for carbs or throttle bodies, however he said he didn't know where the adjustment screw was on the TB's. I think I've heard it referred to as adjustment screw, sync screw, and even balance adjuster screw. Anyone know where it is?

I've done it on my S2R 800 and a 695....the 06 800 was cake, the 07 695, well, after adjusting the valves, changing belts the damn thing needed the Mathesis to finish the job...the 695 had aftermarket slipons requiring the adjustment.
I used Mercury CarbStix to great effect. Getting the stupid little plastic plugs out for the adjusting screws without destroying them is very hard to do.....

Get a cabtune unit , put hoses to inlet manifolds with adaptors . start engine ,adjustment is done on throttle body link bar its very sensitive ,unlock lock nut turn bar to get correct balance then relock nut.
CO2 airbleeds set to closed and then adjust out by up to 1 turn as required .
if you do not have a Co2 tester it can be done by feel and sound of motor.

THAT's what I've been wanting to hear ! I'm competent with carbs but when I got my FI Monster all my web searching indicated the FI couldn't be touched at all without a stack of techo stuff.
My problem is the 'bike starts and runs perfect but at idle and when coming off idle it feels like one lung is leading and the other trying hard to keep up. Once it gets to 3,000 rpm it's perfect. No big deal but annoying to sorta know it could be better right thru the range, so I've just put up with it being a bit fluffy low down.
Just went out now and had another good look at the setup, encouraged by Jerry's words. Obviously loosening the locknut on the body link rod will enable me to do a teeny tweak to get both throttles moving off idle in unison.
My question is - can I muck about here without worrying about CO levels and fancy instruments ?

i have a report ready to go on the moto one site soon about throttle body set up.
some things to note: s2r1000 is closed loop, so no idle speed or mixture adjustment is possible with the original ecu. generally the air bleeds are all the way in or very close to it on the closed loop bikes.
900m has a screw between the throttle bodies for balance adjustment. you set the balance, set the idle speed with the air bleeds then set the idle mixture using a diagnostic tool of some sort. if you don't have a tool the result may depend a lot on luck.

Dear All,
I have a 400ie Fi monster and I have a same problem that WTSDS had. My problem is the 'bike starts and runs but at idle and when coming off idle below 3000 rpm it feels like one cylinder drops and the other trying hard to keep up. Once it gets to 3,000 rpm it's perfect & bike runs. This is really annoying because we are in roads that have traffic jams. So i rest my TPS last week. didn't feel good change. now I am going to sync the trhrottles and do CO trim. Please advise me how to synchronize 400ie TB. do i need to remove all from the bike.

if you remove them from the bike you can't run the bike, which is the whole point.
all m400ie should have a linear tps afaik. how did you reset it?
some notes here:
http://www.bikeboy.org/ducati2vthrottleb.html
how to do the balance further down the page.
some linear tps stuff here:
