I like the fact that it makes the bike look a little larger under me.
IMO - tail chop is ok on pictures without rider, but it makes the bike look a little small with the rider on it - at least for me at 6'4".

I plan on painting mine red/white. Advice, remarks, pictures anyone?

Also it is needed for rainy days.

dude - you are not welcome here unless you chop it  :e:v

serioulsy, it's your bike ~ no one is gonna tell you how you need to have it look
I think I lot of people make the decision not to chop based on how far their exhaust sticks out as sometimes the chop tail will not look right with it

I also think you must be on the fence & eventually will chop it when you work up the nerve  wt:

As for painting, I believe I have seen one with the S2R theme (red w/white stripe) carried over to beer tray and it looked decent (probably a pic on TOB if you can find it)

stopintime,

Good to see you here too!  If you like the beer, keep the tray!

There are also several no-chop options for the rear fender (DP, MadDoctor, etc...)

Half of owning a Monster is expression, which imo results in chicks.

The other half is the sound, which also gets the girls.  :e:v

Do what you want with it. You have a monster, which makes you awesome in the eyes of everyone here...

Thanks guys - I'm getting to like it here!
I've also seen the red/white combo and I'm going there. If I don't get my a** off the fence first. If I paint it I will have to use costers (where is the spell check button?) for beer bottles Huh? Think I'll rename it to tolls tray. Sounds better?

Never fear, the tray may stay!  I agree with you on the length issue, too.  I'll definitely be keeping mine because A) I want to keep the Tricolore as original as possible, and B) When I put the 50mm Termi system on it it'll look too long and weird if the tail is chopped.  The DP part isn't too bad as far as tidying up the look a bit while still keeping the length intact so that's probably the most viable option, for me at least.

If you decide to go with CF:

So many people have good-looking tail chops, but I like a little junk in the trunk.  I opted for the same carbon tail and I think it's a good compromise.

BTW, I think red/white is a great color combination.

I'm in two minds about it, sometimes is see a Monster with it chopped and I dig it and other times a prefer the beer tray.
So my tray is still neatly in place, maybe one day I will give it a chop

It's funny, I have come within inches of my frame w/the saw about 3-4 times now, and for some reason, I just keep backing out... r:e)

I guess it's the whole "don't know if I'll like the looks of the cans protruding way past that tail" thing I'm most hung up about...I saw a pic of a bike w/the same sorta cans I have w/a tailchop, and wasn't very fond of the look.....

Who knows though...maybe I'll end up doing one, maybe I won't....In the meantime It's painted red.... Wink

or you can go the half tray - sold by Shift-tech / Monsterparts manufactued by Lieb-Speed Carbon Production.

the Ducati carbon piece is cool too - especially if your frame is a cool colour.

to each there own...that's what makes the Monster great (that and it was named for kids!)

I like my tray -- it keep the lines of the bike nice and clean.

Plus at 6'2" a full tail chop would shorten the bike and make me look like a gorilla humping a hamster when I ride.
