So, on friday, Robert (Paul Smart), a friend from Italy Marco (848) and I (monster) took off for laguna...

Since my friend had never rode in Caifornia i decided to take to long way up and show him some awsome roads...

We leave at 10:30 and up we go PCH through Malibu to the 101 in Oxnard, to Ojai, 33, Lockwood, Cerro (looong lunch at the screaming squirrel), through Taft, 58 back to the 1 all the way up to Monterey...

Pace was not fast at all. Marco didnt know the roads and 1/2 way up the coast fog and wind didnt help either...so we roll in Monterey at 7:30ish

9hrs

...Monday, after a nice sleep and a good breakfast, Marco took off for Cupertino with his 848 and Robert rode up to SF.

There i was, all alone thinking to my self "do i really want to freez my ass off on the coast and then roast my bollocks in the inlands and ride 8 hrs?" or "do i want to ride the 101 all the way to LA and make it a fast run?"

so....i take off for the 101 and 5 1/2 hrs, 2 1/2 tanks of gas later i was in my garage Smiley

funny note, when i stopped to gas up the first time, i took off in the wrong direction and rode north for a good 15 min untill i noticed that the signs were givign me the distance from SF and not LA Smiley

i have always thought of the 101 being crappy and most of all uncomfortable bouncy like it is here in LA...turns out i was wrong...its a smoth ride and it get bouncy only in Ventura...nice to know there is an alternative to the 1 Smiley

pix will follow

the ride back down the coast wasn't bad at all. we left carmel around 10a and the sun was just breaking.

it was only 90°F in taft yesterday, so no scorching hot heat there, either.

all in all, it was a really nice ride back, though we did do the 150 > 23 to the 101 > 405 on the way back from ojai after dinner. i got home about 8:30 or so.

...how about  Police ?

i saw only one in all 356miles....he had just pulled over some guy in a pickup. He was around a corner and didnt see him till the last moment...i was going 90/95.

You should have seen his face when i passed by. He was JUST coming out of the car. Booklet in his right and car door in his left...he saw me and i saw him swinging the door a few times as to say "SHIT!!! Sould i go get him? or not?"...he didnt Smiley

I guess the fact that i did slow down quite a bit might have helped...

Other than that not one car nor motocop the entire way...

 waytogo

Ride up an' back was superb....great weather and no casualties.
I rode the 996S and..... my son, Michael, the 1098.
Usual back road route North...33, 58, 41 and 1.
Return the same with leaving Ojai over to Santa Paula to Moorpark, etc.
Carmel to South O.C........nice Monday stroll.
Round trip....975 miles.
 Grin
Derby, us and Barry an' friends....all good....about a dozen riders up, an' nine return route.
Too bad Joe got screwed with the track event and did not return with us.
Highway 1/Big Sur route was in good shape and clean, with traffic going up fairly light.
The long break (reward) going North, at Nepenthe in Big Sur, is always a highlight!

Cheers!

I think Luca took the 101 to spare the rear tire....... his last trip home on the 58 was a little sketchy Cool

Derby..... did you hit the Mexican joint  in Taft???  I bet that guy was looking for your crew & you know they have " Damn Good Burritos" Wink

Anybody forget their pants Huh?  Tom bring a change of clothes or any deodorant cheeky

Sounds like good times & a great ride...... hope I get off this short leash one year laughingdp
