Anyone interested in a couple of actors riding BMWs from the top of Scotland to the bottom of Africa? This is a single showing only (then it's showing as a series on the Fox Reality channel) at Gallery Place 14 in D.C. Showtime is 7:30pm Thurs July 31st.
(oh, and while Ewan McGregor may just be Obi Wan, Charley Boorman (also an actor) has raced the Paris Dakar - they're both nuts about bikes)

from Wikipedia:
Long Way Down is a television series, book and DVD documenting a motorcycle journey undertaken by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, on which they rode south from John o' Groats in Scotland to Cape Town in South Africa via Europe and Africa in 2007. It is a follow-up to the Long Way Round trip of 2004, when the pair rode east from London to New York via Eurasia and North America.

The journey started on May 12, 2007 at John o' Groats, and they finished on 4 August 2007. They were accompanied by the key members of the team from Long Way Round, including cameraman and director of photography Claudio Von Planta, producers Russ Malkin and David Alexanian, and cameraman Jimmy Simak. They were also joined by a medic and a security officer, as well as various "fixers" - local guides and interpreters - throughout the journey. They rode the BMW R1200GS Adventure, the successor to the R1150GS Adventure bikes they rode in Long Way Round.

I haven't seen it yet, but I hear it was supposedly a bit more polished and organized and almost prompted-like  in comparison to the previous "Long Way Round" ....still be curious to see it, but the timing is bad for me...

Five hours is a long time to sit in one place. I watched it earlier this year from downloaded torrents. It was excellent.

When is it gonna be on Fox Reality?

(damn shame it wont be on an HD channel)

I think the 'movie' version is edited down to 2 hrs.

Not sure when it's on Fox ('s version of) Reality, but I don't get that, so I'd have to wait for Netflix to get it. They do have Long Way Round though.

bigtime

I bought the long way down dvd and it was a complete waste of money.  I also saw the first series twice (long way round or home) and will probably watch it again.

The first movie you really felt that Charlie and Ewan were out on their own even though they had a very well equipped and sophisticated chase team.  The crew stayed out of the way most of the time and the two had a great chemistry between them and got into some interesting situations (no details in case you folks haven't seen it).  It was a great motorcycling adventure and well worth the time.

Warning, I did not like the second film and the remainder is a critical review and it has a few spoilers:
The long way down was a mad rush from the UK to S.A. and the chase crew was in most scenes.  It's not a motorcycle adventure; it's just a frustrating race with shit load of people, SUVs, guides… all trying to meet a deadline.

The chemistry was gone between Charlie and Ewan and you rarely see them out by themselves.  Ewan's whiny side really comes through and he throws a bucket of ice on the adventure when he announces in the beginning that his wife is joining them during part of the trip.  It creates instant tension and it hangs over the entire trip.  It wouldn't be so bad if she was an avid motorcyclist, but she'd never ridden a day in here life and she just wants to tag along with the boys.  Every time you see Ewan he's whining about how much he misses her and he answers his phone with “hello, love of my life…”  Once they get together it's really pitiful… [bang]

The few times when there's real riding, it's not very interesting. Probably the most tension is when they setup camp and find a trail of ants (wtf?).  They take a couple of side trips to see some of Africa's nightmares, but those trips are by plane and merely included to make them look like caring, politically astute souls.  It's fine that they care about the horrors of the world, but save it for the discovery channel…
